I use a typewriter (a Triumph Gabriele-e)

Nice one (I used to love my Olympia, probably more than any other writing tool I ever owned) :)

blank looseleaf (a particular kind of heavier printer paper), and a springback binder to hold it all. Sometimes I use a fountain pen,

I was heavy into Filofaxes in the 80s and 90s. It was/is so practical! I still have one but it has dropped out of favor when I switched to the Zettelkasten note taking system as I don't need a binder anymore (it uses index cards) and I would not want to use something else nowadays.

but my writing isn’t particularly beautiful.

Min is trash, that's fine I still can manage to read myself...most of the time.

By “journaling” I do it as a kind of braindump on an as-needed basis. Pure stream-of-consciousness without any pressure to make it coherent, organized, or eloquent. I don’t do this every day, but I end up writing once per week-to-10-days.

That's great. Even more so if you have found a rhythm that is suiting you!

Real nice brand of notebooks :)

but I have a hard time keeping it a daily habit.

Failing is ok, and part of the process. As long as you're fine with that idea, you're dramatically increasing your chances to keep going back at it. Otherwise, you will feel bad for not doing it, when there is no need to, and you won't want to reopen your notebook. At least, based on my (decades long) personal experience ;)

I use nb on my PCs

What is nb?

in France, we have this saying 'Nécesité fait loi' which means you make do with what you have and to the best of your abilities. Also, my little finger is telling me quite a few EU countries would not mind a more authoritarian country entering the Council, a country that would then be used to tell France and Germany (and who knows, the warmly welcomed-back UK, one of these days) to go funk themselves. But I may be wrong.

You mean China? They are not part of NATO. Note that the election of Trump have almost made it crystal clear the USA does not care much about NATO anymore (they seem to only care about Ukraine's underground which is not yet part of the EU (what a happy coincidence). So Turkish armed force ranking may very well already be a non-question just that we, NATO-members, have not been officially told so yet... In Which case China and Russia, and Turkey?, would be very happy.

I remember the first time I read this strip. I was in awe. It's still so effing good all those years later :)

Turkey has asked to join the EU already. It was denied last time but something tells me next time they may be very welcome instead.
(hint: Turkey has the second biggest army in NATO right after the USA and has the most active/quickly growing weapon/armament industry in Europe too)

I won't cry for Musk, quite the contrary... But I also don't know how important the EU as a market is for Tesla?

25+ years with my spouse, not married.

We're 'pacsed' though which, here in France, is not like a civil wedding but merely a contract (it takes mere minutes to have it done). That 'pacs' helps protect the other in case something should happen to one of us since, not being officially married, we have no legal protection, no power of decision if the other was incapacitated, and no right to inherit from another at least not without having to pay a lot of taxes whereas it's zero taxes if we're pacsed and we've made a will.

Sadly, part of the reality right now is, that there is no perfect swap-in replacement for what Starlink is being used for,

100% agree on that but, like you said, I wanted to see a more... encouraging way of saying it. This sounds a bit too much like an already failed effort. Yesterday morning, I was reading the latest US demands on Ukraine (imho, we should all closely read them in order to understand what the USA has now turned into and what kind of treatment we can expect from them in the (near) future) and I think we really should not let Ukraine down at the time they have to face Putin's Russia and now also have to face the new bully on the block, Trump's USA—which won't be kind with them the moment they realize they may not get all what they asked from Ukraine (and hopefully they won't get it). Like, not kind at all.
