Modest Mouse is really strong as far as leftist music goes. The lead singer was living in a flooded house he got evicted from before the band started, Their angry songs are pretty good, but I'd say their real strengths come out in their more reflective songs. Lonesome Crowded West is probably their peak

I also strongly suggest Lupe Fiasco as far as leftist rappers. Seriously, just listen to Mural and American Terrorist

Perfect, I can send you some recipes/routines, see what you think of them. Personally, I have a really big problem with executive function. I have schizophrenia so I have very little energy because I'm stuck trying to function in a catatonic stage. Like I'm not going to pretend like I'm perfect, I'm probably just as fucked as you are as far as doing stuff for myself (no disrespect meant, I just understand how hard it can be to do stuff for yourself). But I have the type of autism where I can do stuff for other people like my life depends on it. I'll start writing out some stuff right now. Are you vegan or have any sort of dietary restrictions?

I got you. I used to be a chef, so this isn't just some random person offering you help, I had to keep cost and accessbility in mind for an entire restaurant's worth of staff. I'd try to keep costs down, along as making it as easy as possible for you to make.

I'd even focus on food prep so you wouldn't be fucked on days that I'm not available. Because secret about restaurants, most stuff you eat was prepped at least a day or two ago. They certainly don't do any sort of carb daily. Rice, pasta, potatoes, whatever you can think of. They do it 2-3 times a week. Especially if you're neurodivergent and have a safety meal, meal prep is the absolute shit. Like you could realistically cook 2 times a week and be fine for all 7 days or the week. Taco Bell recombines the same shit over and over again for new menu items, why not do the same thing at home?

An example of a meal prep that would last all week. You boil 1-2 pound(s) of pasta slightly below done on Sunday. Don't worry about not being able to do it just right, just do it by the package instructions and subtract a minute. You rinse off your pasta and toss it in a bit of oil so it doesn't stick to itself, boom you have perfectly cooked pasta after throwing it in the microwave for a minute or two. You make a base sauce on the same day, you're already at the stove, what's another pan mean? Canned tomatoes, whatever source of garlic you have, same thing with onion, and some salt and pepper. If you're a drinker, a splash of whatever you're drinking. You have a very generic sauce, but a great base for whatever you want to do in the microwave. Thinking Italian? Add some Italian seasoning, Parm, maybe some red pepper flake and you have a somewhat healthy and quick microwave meal. Wanna do Mexican? Add chili and cumin along with whatever protein you want the sauce to flavor, boom you have a quick Mexican dish in the microwave. Chinese? Add ginger, soy sauce and MSG if you have it and all of a sudden you have some fried noodles straight from the Chinese place.

Sorry for the long rant, I just think you'd really benefit from learning some restaurant prep. You can have a great variety of food for 7 days with a can opener and an hour or two of time a week. Everywhere does the Taco Bell method. And I know it's a lot to do back to back, but I'm the type of autistic who does better with momentum, one thing gives me the energy to do more until like 2-3 hours in, then I lose the desire to do it for a while. Whatever you need to make it manageable for you, I got you. This place at its core is about helping each other. I'm broke as shit, but I can offer education to help you if you fall in this spot again. There's never any shame in posting here, everybody is great, but as someone who posts here a lot I know nobody likes posting on this comm. Someone here helped me get a remote job that pays way better than mine, so I truly hope I never have to post here again and I can start giving back to the people here. Best mutual aid ever if it actually pays off

Also don't mean to be overreaching, but if this happens again would you wanna try cooking on a zoom call with me? I know it's not the same as actually having someone there to cook with you, but I'd be more than willing to walk you through recipes and such if you just have a hard time with neurodivergence. Obviously wouldn't really help if you're getting help for a physical disability, but I'd be willing to try

Yeah, I mean I was a middle schooler when Gamergate started and I never went harassing people because of it, but I definitely was caught up in Gamergate when it was first going down. It's one of the reasons I'll always love Hbomberguy, because watching his videos was how I ended the youtube algorithm death slide that was Gamergate.

Sad that I can't make it, I really wanted to make this my first movie night but I'm gonna be busy tonight. Guessing it's a livestream and I won't be able to watch I saw the TV glow later?

CW: Dysphoria

Depression and gender dysphoria is such an shitty cycle. No energy to shave because I look like an ugly boy, can't stop looking like an ugly boy without shaving all the shit on my face.

Listening to SoundCloud radio this morning and this song came on, holy shit it's a fun one

I've been interested in a lot of what's been laid out, but I kinda feel like something more substantial should have happened already, since we're 4 hours of show deep. I'm still going to finish the show, but it's starting to get difficult to watch because I just really hate the main characters and I don't feel like it's really going anywhere.

This song is fucking great. One of the creepiest depictions of addiction I've come across.

FKA twigs featuring production from Arca from long before they were out of the closet. The music they made together (EP1&2, LP1) was the way I could express my femininity before I had fully accepted I was trans. They're such a great duo.

She's a fairly famous game developer, but there is pretty much nothing about coding on the website. The coding blog is a link to her livejournal. I fucking lost it when I clicked awards, thinking they'd be for programming, only to see that they were awards for her fan fictions. What a fucking legend.

@ThomasMuentzner@ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net pointed out to me is that wishing death on Kissinger didn't seem to work. Maybe if we do the opposite, they'll die earlier just to own some communists.

The first 2 seasons of Search Party was some of the most engaging TV I've ever seen, I was fully into it. The third season is still pretty alright, but not anywhere near as great as the first 2. But what the fuck even is the 4th season of this show? The last episode just made me feel extremely cheated.

I'm trying to incorporate more beans into my diet and am finding it quite difficult to get my beans the way I want them to be. I'm curious to hear your guy's standard bean recipes. Do you guys use canned or dried beans? Stovetop or microwave? Any secret ingredients?

Here's what I'd call my standard bean procedure.

  • First, I start with canned beans. Dried beans are a bit firmer it seems, but I don't feel like dried impacts the flavor enough to be worth the soak time.

  • If I have it, I'll grate half of an onion into the beans. I don't like onion crunch.

  • Microplane dried mushroom into it for extra protein and flavor

  • Salt, pepper, granulated garlic, paprika and chili flakes. I don't really like how garlic powder works with the beans and don't feel the need for fresh garlic. Fresh ginger is really fire in it though. I add things on top of this usually for more flavor, but this is just my standard bean.

  • Microwave for 3 minutes

I'd do more if it made a difference in flavor, but so far I can't seem to make anything really make the beans pop. What do y'all do?

Thought about using the term idol, but idolizing people who we'll never meet is bad. Who's a trans person that you look up to just for making it?

My pick has to be Rebecca Heineman. Rebecca was one of the founding members of Interplay. As in OG Fallout Interplay. She was one of the lead developers of Wasteland, the Bard's Tale series, Out of This World and many others. After founding interplay, she went on to do a lot of port work. Her work on the 3DO version of DOOM is an insane story, Stop Skeletons From Fighting has an amazing video on it.

Later in life, she moved onto consultant work. From Wikipedia "During this time, she also provided consultancy work directly for other companies: She acted as "Senior Engineer III" for Electronic Arts, upgraded engine code for Barking Lizards Technologies and Ubisoft, optimized code for Sensory Sweep Studios, provided training on Xbox 360 development for Microsoft's development studios, and worked on the kernel code for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 4 at Sony." Nowadays, she runs a company called olde skuul, probably best known for porting Descent 1 & 2 to modern machines.

I just think her story is really cool. I also like the reminder that we've always been there, yk?

I got out of video game piracy for a while, but I'm coming back. One thing I have been absolutely SHOCKED by is how finding PC game torrents is actually kind of difficult from my normal sources. Now it'd be one thing if I just wasn't seeing games, but for some reason Playstation and Switch have far more uploaders and seeders on the sites. This is something that would have been unthinkable when I was into piracy. But from a quick glance, it looks like the Switch has a bigger piracy scene than PCs do right now. This was so extreme I couldn't find a torrent for Minecraft past 1.12. I found a download, but not a torrent. Or I couldn't find any of the old versions of Five Nights At Freddy's on PC, but could find them on other platforms. Things I'd consider true PC staples of the past decade with absolutely nothing popping up in my normal sources.

I'm not asking where to find PC torrents (although I certainly wouldn't mind). Are consoles actually becoming more popular to pirate for?

That's it, that's the post. My partner, her son, and her nephew have been elsewhere for Thanksgiving this weekend. Sure I could rant against Thanksgiving, but I'm just glad that everybody is actually spending time with each other for once.

I got stoned and Bluey came on, it made me really emotional. I had to put this somewhere, sent it to my partner as well. You guys should reach out to the people you love too.
