Yeah the workers becoming managers is always a double edged sword in my experience. They understand the work, but there is deep value with management/leadership training (which they often don't have).

I also work as a dev, but for an academic working group (not software or compsci).

That's all good, but I just want to do my job and leave work at work. I don't want to be contacted on my free-time. Academics don't understand this way of thinking.

Exactly. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement. They might have said something equally bad like "we are moving to facebook".

We need visibility to such institutions because the younger generation is not interested in parsing a website or RSS feed for information and news (this is a sad fact) but rather parse social media. Far right, mis/disinformation will be there for everyone to see. We need scientific and public institutions to be visible.

I think enshittification of "traditional" software already gave enough initial visibility for fediverse and the word "decentralization" that when bluesky goes to shit it's already less of a new thing to move to - let's say - mastodon hosted by EU or whatever.

100%.. I like my boss too, but he doesn't understand that he is micromanaging me and that things end up taking longer. I don't think this is a personality issue only. I think it is lack of experience and knowledge about management.

My boss was away, so I got to work in peace all week! This happiness carried over to my free-time and I slept better.

Micromanagement sucks. But let's keep it positive: last week was nice!

I have both. I tell everyone I only have signal and use whatsapp just with my family and it has worked out great so far.

One sibling already moved to signal by themselves and I'm convinced I'll get others to move as well with time.
