I have heard this many times! Don't get discouraged, it's a hard language and the fact that you got an authentic experience will just boost your learning!
Self-hosting communities. I like the idea and do self host if you consider renting a VPS selfhosting, but can't fit/afford an extra PC (let alone a server rack) in my flat to properly participate in the community.
