Sure, trump can try, but he was arrested by the local police, not the feds.

Common sense gun control means something different to every single person, because there's no such thing as common sense.
Everyone uses that term because they want their supporters to assume that the other side wants irrational laws.
For everyone that thinks it's common sense to allow everyone except X to have guns, there is a different person who thinks it's common sense that only a very small group of people should have any access to firearms.

There are a few problems with the ideal solution here tho. They want people around the victim to be able to interact with them (check vitals, comfort them, etc.) but not be in any danger.
So you need a method that's perfectly fine for the execution, but not the people in the same room.
It's actually a pretty tricky issue.
