I don’t know, Saints Row especially after 4 seems like a game franchise that should have just remained in cryo-sleep. Its legacy probably should been more “spiritual” than actual in my opinion. Just seems like they had nowhere to go with the series mechanically and creatively. The reboot kinda proves that remains true.

The worst thing about both of those is that they felt like half-baked DLCs for 3 more than anything, and gat outta hell in particular just hit a wall where they clearly ran out of time and/or funding.

Agreed!

Saint's Row 4 felt very much like an expansion pack of a game rather than a sequel. It brought absolutely nothing new to the series. I don't mean than in a salty way, it was fun, but it was nothing but more saints row 3. It was basically "saints row 3 - director's cut" or "Saints Row 3+" . Something bigger than a DLC, but something less than an another fully featured entry into the series. I remember my friend saying that "Saints Row 4 plays like a video game pitch", which I think is sadly an accurate way to describe it.

Gat outta Hell let like a bit a rough draft of a love letter and a fun goodbye from the developers. It just felt like they had a good time making it and gave them a chance to have one more romp through the Saints Row world, but not felt like a fully realized farewell. The voice cast seemed to have fun, and the game itself seem sincere (as much as a Saints Row game can) but it totally runs out of steam by the time you meet Jezebel.

Saints Row are meant to be dumb escapism and fun which I believe they succeed at on several levels. Can't beat the rich customization options, and crudely charming world. However, I was felt always like they could have been a bit more if they tried. Like a slacker student, making fart jokes and smoking weed but shows actual high aptitude at times.

I didn't know it came to Steam, I was genuinely a fan of the third game. The blend of parody and satire of celebrity culture and action hero super criminals was a lot of fun. However I'm always kinda felt like it was a game of its time (not in a bad way) and a reboot of Saints Row never really made sense. I would understand a sequel of Agents of Mayhem that reworked its mechanics and built off that more than a Saints Row reboot. Saints Row plainly doesn't work in the modern age, at least not whatever this game is.

The hatred of My Little Pony's was the precursor to modern online fandom discourse. People's online response to this show (good, bad, or indifferent) warped how the internet talks about fandom in a major way and online culture as whole in a lesser extent.

I made myself a promise not to buy any new games for remainder of 2023 and 2024. Finally upgraded my rig and I just want to play my library of games I got on sale a long time ago that i couldn’t play. I am kinda falling in love with games again because I playing all these bangers. I have more of problem finding time to play than find a great title to olay

The cracks in the geriatric kleptocracy of America is coming to its logical conclusion. Sadly it’ll make room for internet poisoned neoliberal maniacs who will continue to uphold the our necro-oligarchy.

I rememeber when TF2 came out and they talked about how carefully crafted each character's silhouette was to convey essential game information. Then... hats.

Oh yeah, the general shape of each class was so clear and distinct. I don't think hates were too much of a problem, I actually have more issue with some of the visual effects on the hats, cosmetic items, and some of the weapons. It's so much visual "noise" in an already noisy game. Even as a player with ~500 hours in the game it's a bit much to manage, not impossible but it's just kinda over doing it these day. It wouldn't be so bad if there were a way to disable it or something but it really creates a noticeable rift between the current game and the rather "old" (in relative gaming terms) game.

Agreed. I like alternate costumes, hell even joke costumes, but after a certain point the aesthetic falls apart in a noticeable way. Sometimes cosmetics feel really good and fit in the game world super well. Other times they just ugly, or overly designed, or worse yet confusing that doesn't convey information properly to the player. In general, I don't like having to open my wallet for these sorts of goodies either way. It should just be rewards for playing the game.

I was just talking about this with some of my CS meet-up people in our virtual hangout. The group is most 25-45 in age from all sorts of backgrounds and stuff, and we all agree it's bonkers pretty much every program are so bogged down with features and functions that are used by like .0001% user-base but add an 100X in load times and performance costs.

Not only are these programs full of bloat, I can only imagine the code that makes these things are just full of hacks and "fixes" that need to be reworked from the ground up. I think the craft of building software has been negatively impacted by the whole "get it done" mindset of startups rather than "get it right" of yesteryear.

Anytime an american white person quotes a black american other than Obama there is a 99.69420% chance they are going to utterly miss the point. :mlk-yes:

On the super real I think about this sort of weird blend of classic hickory barrel aged white supermenacy and more modern spice accents of modern thinking that knowing one thing about one thing means you know everything about everything.
