I’ve switched to a 3rd party app because the default camera 5x implementation is so frustrating.
When you hit 5x one would think that would mean that the 5x lens is used, but what seems to happen is that the app decides what to use based on distance and light levels. This means if it’s not a distant object or the light levels aren’t bright and sunny you end up getting a 5x zoom on your 1x which looks terrible.
My biggest peeve with it is that it’s not clear which lenses is used until you review the photo info and look whether it’s 24mm or 120mm.
