Good. Let these idiots be loud. Let every Canadian see what the Fuck Yeah 'Muricans think of us, so that the sting lasts as long as possible. We don't want to get lulled back into business as usual once Asshole Donny bits the bullet.
Reddit communities will see fediverse communities as hostile because, well, we are. There are Discord servers and TikTok channels and whatever else associated with these subreddits, but the subreddit mods have a cut of that. They're either friends with the server admins, the channel content producers, or whatever else. These offshoots didn't start up by randos popping in and going "hey, audience, do you want to be somewhere else?"
Reddit mods are not friends of the fediverse, and drop-in replacements for their thing probably aren't going to be treated kindly.
You need to backdoor some of this stuff. Post an article or a video on the fediverse for its own sake, and then share that on other platforms, just as one might do with a post from Twitter or a video on YouTube.
That's the kind of thing Reddit is for, after all -- it's a content aggregator -- and so long as the subs allow similar content from other platforms, you should be able to stay above board. And if they single you out for posting links to content on non-centralized sites while they allow corporate ones to pass freely, then you can kick up a stink before they ban you.

You can be perfectly correct, or you can reach people who reject reality. You gotta decide on your goals, and understand that peacocking on the Internet isn't useful.
I'm not reinforcing anything. I'm saying bypass that part entirely, and use the conservative talking points against taxes to discuss this. That the end consumer is ultimately the one that pays, no matter what.

People caught in the right wing noise machine always seem to understand that businesses pass on business taxes to the consumer. So, if other countries were paying the tariffs, why wouldn't they pass those costs on?
I always like forum setups where you had limited posting privileges until you'd had a couple of posts. Usually, they'd have an introduction category where you could post, and then comment on some other users' posts, to get your post or reputation count high enough to unlock the rest of the board.
Most Lemmy sites are small enough to have a local introduction community or other 'free' communities for newbies to dip their toes and acclimate. They'd be good places to centralize posts on how all of this works, too.
Wouldn't scale to large servers, though.
