I stopped finding this as funny when I learned that some of the "leaks" have been stuff like a person quoting a Wikipedia entry on a WW2 tank, or a recent one where somebody quoted an internationally available manual for a jet.

Still hilarious though that it's such an issue that "Do you play War Thunder" is a question asked by the US military in job interviews.

True. I think painting would probably be the more accurate word to have used. Though, I would love a Picasso emoji...

It's worth noting that though those are the "recommended" settings, my 2060 runs high settings without any issues, and runs high settings on every other game I've played, including other AAA releases from this year. It's my fault for not making it clear that those are NVIDIA's recommended settings and not what I actually have it running at. But Starfield is the first game I've ever seen that has simply not been able to run on a standard HDD at all. Even Baldur's Gate 3, which requires an SSD as well, runs competently on an HDD, just with slower load times on models/textures.

I totally understand that tech becomes outdated, especially with the jump from one console generation to the next. And especially that the recent generations of NVIDIA cards have been nowhere near as long-lasting as the 900 and 1000 series were. But Starfield is an outlier even by those standards. It has never put any real pressure on my CPU or GPU, it's all been entirely on the speed of the harddrive.

Running it on an HDD was such a bizarre experience. The game would freeze for about 5 seconds every minute or so, and on initiating any dialogue with NPCs it would stutter for just a moment. NPC dialogue would also be out of sync with their animations, which is to be expected with the stutter. The weirdest part was how the music would stop playing suddenly and the game would go completely silent for about 10 seconds while it was still running smoothly, before all the sounds that had happened in that timespan played out suddenly, like they had been queueing up while the game figured out whether or not it wanted to play them. For this one particular game to have these kinds of issues - especially considering how partitioned the game world is by loading screens - says that the issue lies in the optimization of Starfield and not the specs of my PC. Especially since they all stopped when I migrated the game to an SSD I have plugged into an external SATA dock hooked up over USB C.

And your logic is bass ackwards. The solution is to educate people about how bad letting cats live outdoors is, not pretend that their pet is a feral. All you'll do that way is eventually come home to broken windows once they find out who stole their cat. Tell them how much better (and longer) their cat's life will be if they live indoors vs. outdoors and you're much more likely to actually change something.

The majority of people don't know any better. And if they grew up with cats, it's very likely that that's how they were taught that you care for a cat. It's only been in the past 20 years or so that the consensus on how cats should be kept has shifted from outdoors to indoors. Hell, look at how common declawing cats still is.

And I want to cull people like you. A shame we don't always get what we want.

Cats should be kept indoors for a variety of reasons, including that they're one of the largest threats to native species in the world and that they live longer indoors anyways due to the lack of picking up parasites and are at no risk of being preyed upon by larger predators. But to say you want to murder animals en masse just because they don't understand property laws and do their business outside like... some sort of animal would is absurd, bordering on psychopathic. Might as well sit on your porch with a shotgun on your lap in case somebody's dog decides to pee on your bushes.

The fact that it literally can't run on a normal HDD is baffling to me. The game is so poorly optimized that not only does it require an SSD just to run both the graphics and audio smoothly and in sync, but the recommended settings for my 2060 are everything as low as it can possibly go. I got roughly a decade out of my 970 before it truly started to show its age, but my 2 generations old card is barely good enough to run this game?

And don't even get me started on how I keep feeling like I'm playing Fallout 4 because so much of the music uses the same underlying score of the music from the reveal trailer. The number of times I've heard those rising notes from the leaving the Vault scene in Fallout 4 in my 3 hours in Starfield...

Bread often has stuff baked into it, so what's the difference between a loaf of bread with cheese or nuts baked into it vs. a loaf with chicken, cheese, and marina sauce baked into it.

You jest, but my dad actually had a friend who did this for a living with Ford Pintos back in the day, and one time an inspector of some kind remarked that he made them safer than they were when they rolled off the factory floor.

I feel like there could be a market niche for it. Replace the tapes with something... more aesthetically pleasing, maybe hook it up to a remote so you change it between a few preset shapes easily, maybe a pair of motion sensors as an option so that it "opens" on its own, and I think there is some appeal to this as some sort of room divider or something.

Rich people will spend money on stupid things they'll never use just to flaunt their wealth, so put a big enough price tag on it and I'm sure there would be some kind of market for it.

Sheer spite is a perfectly valid reason to continue to get out of bed in the morning.

Nobody on their deathbed has ever said, "I wish I spent more time in the office."

A battle you don't have to fight is a battle won. But if you do have to hurt somebody, hurt them bad enough that they won't get back up. Otherwise, they're very likely to come right back at you.
