Had it not pulled a Wii

A good expression for the situation. Wingspan's success is definitly to a large part because of it's accessibility. Every problem you have (no cards, food, eggs) has an immediate, guaranteed and obvious solution. Everything you CAN do improves your position. And if you play on the blue side there is barely any direct competition in the game. There's no way to shoot yourself in the foot. There is no requirement to plan ahead.

But it does have some potential to plan ahead, optimize and compete for those who want to.

It also doesn't fall into any of the typical setting tropes like fantasy or sci-fi that might put some people off. It's production values are pretty enough to catch some eyes.

There are better sober games and there are better drunk activities than Munchkin.

If you're at a point where you're having fun with Munchkin you'd be having fun without it as well...

After seeing what the scenarios with different win conditions looked like I am GLAD most were just "kill all monsters".

As for session length we always played just a single scenario (unless we lost the first super quick). It took us a good year maybe one and a half to play through the campaign. IMO the problem is less the session length and just how much of a time hog this game is in general. We're talking 150+ hours dedicated to a single game.

As a Swiss person I would like to apologize for that woman's "English".

Busses have their uses. Lots of commentor have mentioned the flexibility in setting up / changing routes. But there's also the flexibility in sizes. You can start a line with a large van or small mini bus and your only overhead is the driver. From there you can scale that up according to demand up to frequently run articulated busses. Meanwhile your minimum investment for tram includes at the very least a not inexpensive track installation.

Don't get me wrong. If you have the passenger volume that investment definitely pays off. But I don't like this unnecessary competition between two modes of transport that can be very complimentary to each other and are both better than individual cars.

The secret source of humor isn't joy but sorrow. - Mark Twain

The situation is dire but not serious - Viennese proverb

Life is too important to take it serious. - ome other proverb

Levity is good. It relieves tension and the fear of death - T80

Humanity has a long tradition of lightening the mood in dark situations with (sometimes inappropriate) humor. Internet memes are simply one of the newer iterations...

Republicans are probably fully on board with these new charges. I hear they have quite the obsession with former white house residents deleting stuff that pertains to the government from private systems...

For his post is dark and full of errors.

Uhm. GoT isn't exactly the first to use this expression...

Ein Kugelschreibär

Ein Kaminchen

your healing spells are more effective. Whenever you use a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points to a creature, the creature regains additional hit points equal to 2 + the spell's level.

What happens when I cast a level 1 spell using a level 2 spell slot?

Literal reading would suggest that the spell slot is irrelevant only the inherent level of the spell but I have seen statements to the contrary.

It's not a huge difference. But I'd still like to know.

Ägyptisch oder ich schieße!

darauf sind sie eingegangen!

Ein Semmelbegriff.

Your friends have games you like to play.

When do you folks buy your own copy? When are you content to just request or borrow it from time to time?

As a new user I would like to point out some issues I encountered getting off the ground with lemmy in the hopes that ironing these out will help the network welcome more users.

  1. join-lemmy.org is really hard to find without the "join". On startpage.com there is exactly 1 link related to the link aggregator software out of 10 pages. And that one links to the github. You're gonna lose a whole bunch of possible users on this hurdle.
  2. join-lemmy.org doesn't do what it says on the tin. The home page is almost exclusively dedicated to get people to self host. In terms of overall population these people are a rounding error. The focus of a site called "join lemmy" needs to be to get people to join lemmy. To that end: explain what it is then move them along
  3. picking an instance to join is not something the average user wants to do. They want to join LEMMY. They do not have the information to make an educated decision at this point.
    • there should be a short list or wizard to guide them. language? country? nsfw content yes/no/maybe? Then give them a few recommendations for ACTIVE instances.
    • there needs to be accounting for the fact that if they register on a non-NSFW instance they will not be able to consume NSFW content. This is an important information regardless of what you want, as picking the wrong one means you have to do it all over again. An appreciable number of users will just leave at that point.
    • there should be an option for users to move all their contributions from one instance to another. There will inevitably be instances that go under. I don't know about others but I would like to be able to take my history with me if I'm forced (or decide) to move.
  4. The initial content offered to new users is often suboptimal. Firstly, it defaults to showing only the local communities, which is fine if you consider instances as their own ecosystem but horribly disappointing for someone looking for a reddit replacement. There should be an initial community selecton like on reddit. A few busy quality general interest slices (group of lemmings) to get people started and engaged. Maybe have each instance curate their own collection? Then default to that.
  5. figuring out which new community to subscribe is annoying. There are currently a LOT of duplicate communities with little to no content. In addition to subscriber stats there should be an activity stat.
  6. community groups and collectives could help in this regard. Say you're interested in TTRPGs. There are currently like half a dozen communities (slices).
    • If a user could subscribe them into a larger (personal) group they could check on each of them in one go instead of visiting each individually
    • The communities themselves could organize into "collectives" in a similar way as hashtags are born. These could be a very useful first point of contact for the corresponding interest.
  7. auto reload pushing new content in at the top is hugely annoying. we have refresh buttons for a reason.

Angenommen ihr könntet eine Welt die ihr aus Videospielen gut kennt im TTRPG Format bespielen. Was wäre euch lieber.

Alles mehr oder weniger so wie ihr es euch gewohnt seit, einfach nur dynamischer?

Oder alles neu verteilt/zusammengesetzt und im ähnlichen Stil nachempfunden?

Considering the still limited size an aggregate daily recommendations thread is probably overkill if not counterproductive.

But maybe some regular prompts like "what did you play last week?" could be fun...
