Honestly, having some insider knowledge of the industry, if China can make their semiconductor industry entirely one state owned enterprise, they will blow the western companies out of the water with efficiency. The biggest thing hobbling semiconductor development IMO is that every piece of manufacturing equipment is made by a different company with their own IP that they jealously guard, meaning the main manufacturing enterprise has to take out service contracts with the production tool manufacturer. This introduces a huge efficiency gap, because each entity must maintain secrecy from every other entity involved in order to maintain profitability. So, the technicians on the factory floor can only do the most basic troubleshooting and repairs; anything beyond that they have to call the tool manufacturer service engineers to come out and fix it, and only the one company can troubleshoot and repair.

Now, extrapolate that to every aspect of the manufacturing process: from creating the silicon crystal, to cutting the wafers, polishing the wafers, transporting and storing the wafers, applying lithography films, etching, deposition, defect metrology, cutting the dies, to attaching the chip to the substrate and connecting the leads and hat. Every single step of the process introduces a huge amount of inefficiency solely due to the profit motive.

It’s incredibly frustrating to see how horribly inefficient the manufacturing process is under capitalism.

Are you going for one sphere or one sphere stacked on the other?

do we really need it to look more realistic?

That’s true, and I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. I just remember game graphics constantly improving and I just kinda noticed that stopped.

Looking at Starfield screenshots I can’t help but wonder if photorealistic graphics peaked like five years ago. Was the “good games aren’t just graphics” push years ago industry propaganda so they could cheap out on graphics? Am I too high to be posting?

Uhh, excuse me, this is Disinformaziya. Mods!!!

The kind of coffee shop where they think it would be cool for radicals to meet there, but then they ask you to start meeting elsewhere because you’re scaring paying customers away.

The one thing positive I will say is that this is the lowest level of infighting I’ve seen among Hexbears in years.
