I believe the point is that there's a process for deciding whether a juvenile should be charged as a juvenile or as an adult. It means a juvenile who is mature enough to be making cold, calculated decisions (like, "hey, I'm a juvenile, I can get away with more") can still be tried as an adult.

Wondering if this was just due to negligence, or if there were other systemic issues that...

I find it funny that nobody (including the article) is discussing the chance that it's straight up incompetence.

Feels like a pretty big failure to not have this work checked by at least one other engineer.

Yeah, this is a very good point too. Where's the peer review on something that is so critical!?

Not exactly what I was expecting for a Florida Man story.

You were paid to do a job, but you also expect a cut of whatever future revenue it might achieve?

If it's in the contract then yes.

If you're wondering why it's in the contract, this is very common in lots of different business types.

Up front, there may not be a desire to make a huge investment. What if isn't a success? So you tell whoever is making , "hey, we'll pay you measely dollars now to make it, and pay you percent of money that comes in for it down the road." This way you can invest a smaller amount up front ensuring the thing gets made, but everyone involved gets a cut based on the future success.

Since the success/amount made isn't determined in a one-time deal, you pay out the shares of the success over time: aka residuals.

Connect for Lemmy calls it "Front page" which confuses some people, but it's your subscribed communities.

"You can have this ball back if you can prove it's yours."

"You just said you'd give it 'back' implying you already know it's mine."

"Nuh uh, that's not proof, because I'm holding it so clearly it I made it mine"

"Okay, then how do I prove it's mine?"

"I dunno. Not my problem"

"You don't really want to give me the ball back, do you."

"No, not really. No."

"Got it."

But wait, can you start at the beginning? How did you meet your wife?

I'd be curious about a private Edu tracker. I have invites for a private tracker to trade.

Looks like a feature...

To me!

(it's a "horizontal rule", also known as a line, which you can put in HTML as or in Lemmy comments using three ~~dashes~~ Edit: asterisks)

I had to brush the dust off after rolling around on the floor.

Yeah this bugs me too. However, sometimes the key is scrolling farther down the search results. Google likes to put YouTube video results first but sometimes you can find the written instructions on a non google owned blog post past the videos.

Also, Bing (I know, I know) will break down the video and sometimes link you directly to the part of the video you need.

At least you can try asking ChatGPT now?
