I have seen this exact question so many times in my decade on r/canning before mods could nuke them. It’s kind of astounding how ignorant to food safety some of those posts can be and that was before the great mod purge. I really hope the rest of the community has stepped in to warn others if the mods aren’t doing their job to combat misinformation.

Why aren’t we taxing by weight yet? Trucks have been destroying our roads for years and we still have laughable weight limits. Taxing by weight would also prioritize smaller EVs rather bigger monstrosities that lead to more traffic related deaths.

What winters? It barely gets below 32F/0C in Detroit anymore. This is actually quite problematic bc we need at least two solid weeks straight of below freezing temperatures to kill invasive bugs and we are no longer getting that.

I’m not understanding why the bulk of this council isn’t under the age of 35. Those are the people that have stayed or moved here and have the most hands on experience as to why and what they need/want to make that stay permanent.

This council just seems like an ineffective waste of time and money.

Hair is hair, who gives a shit what pronouns the person who is paying you to cut it uses? Hope she loses her entire business over this hateful stance.

When I was a mod, karma points could come in handy when trying to decide if a user 1) just had a one-off weird day and just needed one comment removed, 2) had a slightly questionable comment history and needed to have all comments manually approved or 3) had a history of hate speech and needed to be banned immediately across the associated communities.

I also appreciated in informational subs that karma would allow for the most accurate or additional information to rise to the top. It wasn’t 100% accurate and could really depend upon the sub, particularly the moderation team, but it allowed the drivel or disinformation to be more easily ignored.

Sure, there’s a bit of gamification with made up points, but karma does have it’s uses and I’m hoping that the positive aspects can be brought over to the fediverse.
