Maybe I'm trippin' but it feels like the eyes are wider on the real pic and it sort of conveys more of a "Are you seeing this shit?" Or like a "Really?" Expression, but when I look at each, the eyes are actually wider on the drawn one. Which makes me wonder if we (or at least just me) interpret relative eye sizes differently in cartoons.

Yeah, remember how big of a stink Internet Explorer on Windows was in the 90s? Imagine if Internet Explorer blocked you from downloading other browsers. That's basically what Google Play Store has been doing. Why it's taken this long to get fixed is beyond me, but I'm glad it's happening.

Hits the griddy with Thanos or something, idk, I don't play Fortnite.

Even if they were 18+, I thought the thing was that they were trafficked/raped? Even if an "Epstein girl" was 21, that doesn't necessarily absolve the people that had relations/raped/abused/etc. her. I haven't kept up with the case so don't know the details. Plus after the whole pizza gate and save the children fiasco it can be difficult to really sort out which parts are legitimate and which parts are conspiracy, so I haven't dug much.

I'm only really responding to the "age of consent is a technicality" thing. Not that statutory rape shouldn't be viewed as rape, but I don't think these were scenarios of older people and minors having otherwise "consensual" sex.

What a whiny baby XD

I feel like I'd need to check the wiki less if pacman had flags that made more sense lol. Plus so many variations of commands the wiki warns "this will break your shit".

I really like Arch, I'm using CachyOS, it's been great. But I do miss apt lol. Maybe that's just because I was used to it though. Update and upgrade being two totally different things is also extremely counterintuitive.

This is the type of shit that makes devs not want to support Linux. Respect volunteers.

The beauty of composting is you don't even need to use it. It'll just turn into a dirt pile.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Oh, that's weird, you'd think there'd be a way to tell whatever is on air to download a specific tag. Or like one that downloads the other indirectly. I haven't looked into pkgbuild or aur.

Me, Linux enthusiast, software engineer, after spending an hour trying to get some radio manufacturer's software to cooperate with Wine: Honey, can I borrow your laptop?

I'm sorry, Mr. Torvalds! Forgive me!

Having read a lot of the thread it sounds like that's sort of what's going on with the version on the AUR. Sounds like it is the old GPL v3 version and the dev doesn't wanna put the new CC BY-NC-ND version on the AUR themselves because they don't want to make an account there (understandable, not saying they should have to).

The whole situation is sort of sad, but ultimately devs working on free (as in money, I now -ND is not libre) software need to do what they need to do to remain sane. If it's a CC BY-NC-ND emulator without Linux support versus no emulator at all I think we'd all want the first.

I hope this thread can be an eye opener for folks to remember to treat volunteer devs with respect. (Not implying anyone here was part of the problem.)

Duplo is just as much "Lego" as Technic is. They're all made by the same company.

The average person probably couldn't figure it out because they don't care to. If you tell someone "Make a Lemmy account"ntheyll be confused. If you tell someone "Make an account at https://lemmy.world/" they'll figure it out. It's like if you give someone a puzzle but it's boring and they don't care to solve it, they're probably not gonna take the time to solve it.

I am trying to make a 2024 version of my paladin. I can pick Oath of Devotion because it is free. I can pick the Xanathar's options and Oathebreaker because they are from 2014 content I own, but I cannot pick the 2014 version of things I own if they're in 2024 content I don't own. I can't use the Oath of the Ancients.

I'm interested in setting up something to act as a file server. Think of it as "the cloud" but local. I've never built (or bought) something specifically for this, so it's a big foreign to me.

I think really all I would want is something that can store a lot of TB of data easily. It doesn't need to be fast. It doesn't need to be able to stream media anywhere. It really only needs to be able to act as an SFTP server, maybe run sync thing (new to that), and maybe act as a NAS. My gut feeling is something like 10+ TB might be a good amount to start. Something that won't fill up quick and that I can put big things in (like a full system image of another computer) without concern.

What would be a good way to go about this? Building a computer like normal but getting very cheap stuff? Getting something pre built or used (like surplus office stuff)? I'm just not really sure where to begin.

When talking about inflation there are two main types. I usually call them treasury and CPI inflation, but I don't necessarily know if those are widely used terms. By treasury inflation I refer to the total supply of money, like the inverse of federal interest rates basically. By CPI inflation I mean the change of the consumer price index over time. Both are useful, but depending on the context one may be more useful than the other.

The initial concept developed by the company involved using heat generated by Bitcoin mining rigs, according to Heata Co-founder and CTO Chris Jordan.

"We literally put a Bitcoin miner in a barrel of mineral oil and plumbed it up to a radiator," he told The Register.

Edit, because I think folks may be confused due to the quote I put in. They are not installing crypto miners into water heaters. That was just their original inspiration. Sorry for the confusion.

"We're not looking at serving real time workloads, we're not doing websites, databases, message queue servers," Jordan explained. "Our ideal job is; here's a chunk of data, go and process that for some hours. And here's the result," he said.

This could still prove useful for 3D rendering workloads, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and others where there is a lot of CPU or GPU processing, he claimed.

My Keyboard has a chattering problem. On Windows I was able to run a program that would detect this and fix it. I believe I could use the built-in keyboard bounce accessibility feature to solve this, but the lowest setting it will allow me to use is 100 ms. When I type normally I will sometimes push a key that fast (e.g., hitting backspace a lot or in a video game). Is it possible to lower this settings to something like 10 ms? Maybe via the terminal?

Edit:

Potential workaround found. In ~/.config/kaccessrc manually change it to something like 10. Save and reboot. It didn't seem to take hold if I didn't reboot. Even typing this now I am seeing some problems, but I also hear the ding indicating it is working. Change BounceKeysRejectBeep to false to get rid of the ding. A comment on the bug mentioned 40 ms, so maybe that's a good sweetspot.

[Keyboard]
BounceKeys=true
BounceKeysDelay=10
BounceKeysRejectBeep=true

For me it isn't working. Single player works fine. If Crossplay is ON I can see other games on the world map, but time out when joining the lobby. When I disable Crossplay I see none at all. (Yes, this is the opposite of what you might guess based on other issues people have mentioned where disabling Crossplay fixed it.)

Update: I switched to Proton 9 from the Cachy version and it works!

This will likely have some technical inaccuracies because I've never dealt with something this specific with PSUs. I have two slots for PCIe. I have a 3070 ti which has two 8 pin connectors. Each of this PSU's cords for the PCIe slots (minus that mysterious 600W one which I think is not for anything I'm doing due to the size) goes from the 12 pin on the PSU to two separate 8 pin connectors (well, 6 with the optional 2).

My gut feeling is to just plug a single cord from the PCIe slots I to the two slots on my GPU. But I'm wondering about what would happen if I plugged two cords into the PCIe slots separately and then put a single connector into the GPU from each. Would that be better/worse/the same/catastrophic?

I'm wondering if it has something to do with dividing the current among the different rails in the PSU or something? It has a little jumper to enable "overclocking" which does something like combining the rails, but I'd rather not fool with that. And it also might be totally unrelated to the other question. The jumper is, of course, just out of view of the pic, but it's also not really relevant.

Edit: I went with one and it's working fine.

Sorry for the horrible picture. It's hard enough to see with my eyes, let alone get a pic.

Using one of those FTDI kenwood adapter programming cables. My gut feeling is no. It would be nice for things like sending/receiving SSTV images.

I am able to transmit if I use a double ended male 3.5 mm cable in the microphone hole of the radio and the headphones hole in my computer, but I have to hold down the PTT button. Also I have to turn the volume on my computer down a lot or else it is distorted. I suspect this has something to do with "line out" versus "headphones" voltage levels (I recall seeing some YouTube video discuss this).

My guessThe left sort of looks like the outside of the cable so I think that's ground.

Is there just a gallery of various antenna types/lengths and their radiation patterns anywhere? It seems like there are some programs to make them, but I can't seem to easily get them for Mac and I also don't need something super advanced. Just something showing various "standard" antenna types and their patterns for various wave lengths.
