What I was referencing was the political news recently with their CEO. Lotta people up in arms about that one. However I haven't heard of the email one. Was that the one where the Users IP got leaked/turned over?

Any links you can share?

While the original comment has validity, I think it's important to know that a lot of the proton news you'll find is very "drop it immediately" biased.

I definitely think the news left a bad taste that's worth keeping an eye on, but I don't think it should eliminate them completely as an option. Especially for newer privacy advocates.

Edit: full disclosure for future readers, I may be biased as well since I do continue to use proton services and I love it. But I still try to look at both sides on things like this.

Yeah. I'm trying to compromise based on "threat level" but I'm also happy to try a way to f*** over the data tracking/profiling anyway I can. Lol

Awesome explanation. Thank you! I've been getting more into privacy and security here and there and I've also degoogled with graphene, run brave with strict blocking, VPN with ad blocking, etc. I knew JavaScript could be bad but never looked into it much. I may make that my next endeavor.

Question on that topic, is blocking JavaScript generally advised in browser settings? I've tried it once or twice and noticed things like login buttons might not work. Any difference with using the extensions?

I will definitely check this out. Sounds really promising from the quick glimpse and most importantly, affordable.

Edit: gesture typing made me type adorable lol.

Any specific ones to look into?

I currently use Waze because the features are awesome but how has your experience been with organic maps? I want to use it but worried about it not being great. I haven't actually tried it.

Thanks for the advice. It isn't an end all if I can't get it to work in this way. Just thought I'd give it a try since I saw there was a helper script for Proxmox. I wasn't aware of the limitations that may come with this though. I guess either upgrading routers in the future for something for customizable may be a better option.

[–] JackAttack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Both great questions. I did not check the hardware and I definitely should have..as far as passthrough I have not. I really only ran the helper script to install the Proxmox VM and configurations. I'll have to check the settings when I'm back home to see what exactly it did.

Well currently I have a nest wifi pro router that doesn't allow a lot of customization. (I used to be a Google fan). And since I had a beelink I figured I would try it. I was also wanting to be able to run a VPN on my router and the nest doesn't allow clients.

TLDR: To make a long story short, Netflix used to be the crown jewel that had everything. Now they arguably have a much worse catalog, for a higher price, on a platform you can't have your family members share because they live in another household.

I definitely see your point but I can also sympathize with the other point. The way I see it, the market is saturated with streaming services that all get, I assume, licenses to show different shows/movies.

Because of this, consumers are spreading their spending between platforms to potentially watch only specific shows. I would guess that most people really only have a few movies/shows they actually want to watch. The rest being filler.

As an example, maybe people bought paramount+ for Yellowstone. Sure maybe SpongeBob or others that they have, but compared to their entire offering, that's only a few. Maybe that 10-15 dollars a month makes it worth it but when you keep raising it and offer worse items or cancel actually good shows while keeping alive shitty ones because they're trending (subjective, I know) then that's where the anger can stem from I think.
