Fair point, but basic physics has been a part of our education program for at least 60 years. Also for few years the 'exchange priced' or 'market valued' electricity has been somewhat popular and on the news, which adds up to the general understanding as if you know your stuff it means quite literal money as your bills are smaller. So, maybe 'absolutely everyone' is a bit of a stretch, but in general the majority of adult people understand the concept.

And also a ton of common folk understand it at least a bit on a deeper level as basic physics is included to studies beyond elementary school regardless on what you study. Sure, not everyone understands (or cares) how 3 phase AC in here adds up to 400V or why you need to have 2,5mm² wires for 16A fuse, but it's still pretty common that people, specially in a separate house, understand how you can only pull 2300W out of a 10A circuit or 3600W from a 16A one (10 and 16A being the most common fuses in a household in here).

Vic 20 -> C=64 -> few 386/486 units -> AMD K6-2 and a ton of stuff after that. And maybe something in between.

And now I'm writing this in my garage computer which I picked up from a e-waste pile at work few years back and it has more computing power than pretty much all the systems combined I had before being 18 years old. And when we (as a family) got our first "mobile" phone it was hardwired to a car electronics since they took 'a bit' more power than the supercomputers we carry in our pockets today (obviously Li-ion batteries were not a thing either, but that old Motorola NMT450 took a crapload of power by todays standards).

It's been a wild ride so far. My grandparents were on top of the technology when they got the first landline phone around the neighborhood (I'm living in a rural area so it was not a new invention back then by any stretch) and now I can just yell to a entity in my palm to show me pictures from another planet or a high definition live video from Earth orbit.

And still I'm somehow trying to teach basic tehcnology concepts to both my parents and my kids. It's bizarre to try and explain about benefits of touch typing to a 16 year old who thinks it's pretty much impossible for anyone to type out an essay at school containing 2000 words in an hour (33wpm)...

If it's original content then there's an option to request removal of those posts based on copyright. I at least hope that users in Lemmy are civilized enough to respect that.

But creating (or reviving in this case) another community for same niche is still not harrasment nor hostile. If the mods of both communities think that they're competing with eachother they are free to arrange things differently (splitting already small userbase is not beneficial for either). However it's not something I think any instance mod should interfere with and this kind of metadiscussion should be in those communities, not in general meta.

Maybe a bit impolite to repost stuff (in general, not just on lemmy), but that's how internet seems to work today. Any platform which gives option to monetize the popularity will receive a ton of accounts which just blatantly steal content from the internet, fill it with ads or product placement and spam the hell out of it.

Meanwhile !corvids@sopuli.xyz has on average a single post per day. And I'm pretty sure that both of those communties are mostly reposts from somewhere else.

Reddit has always been down every now and then. And it's pretty much back online after few hours of DDOS or whatever. When I was an active user there (10 years or so) this kind of thing happened at least once or twice every month, it's nothing new. And next one will come sooner or later. Business as usual.

Downdetector shows that they have some problems, but as @tankfox@midwest.social already mentioned, this is not the right community.

Cases where salary was paid by government aren't directly available online (at least in Finland) but I personally have recieved money trough them and followed the process from the side as my previous employer was bankrupted. Also in here the tax office is the biggest entity which drives companies to dept collection and eventually to bankrupt if they don't have money. So, yes, it happens pretty much all the time. Most of the time those are businesses which are going down anyways so there's nothing to get, but there's no mechanism preventing that happening to any company which doesn't play by the rules.

I don't know how things work in Germany but here in Finland we have an government agency which pays salaries if company can't or won't as a safeguard for employees. After that they go after the company with pretty beefy lawsuits which eventually say that either the company pays for the salaries and some extra for the trouble or government just seizes and sells enough property that they get what they're owed. And if company doesn't have money nor property then it'll go bankrupt and that's it. I assume Germany (and most of the other European countries) have similar mechanisms.

And then there's of course the union too. They can just decide to either stop coming to work altogether or go in a 'sitting strike', as in show up but don't do anything during the day. And they can enforce that, you can't just hire new people to replace those on strike.

And this is very much not limited just to signal. No matter what software, protocol or any other way you use to communicate, both you and the receiving entity/entities are the weakest link by a long shot. I don't expect even my closest friends to hold our everyday conversations secret if for whatever reason their wellbeing was threated in any way. And even if I did there's always other options, like targeted social engineering, to get trough pretty much any reasonable safety concerns on digital communication.

Of course in everyday life if our chat histories were publicly available it would not be too big of an issue, but it's still something worth keeping on mind when interacting over any digital or any other written medium.

What misconception? I learned that from Donald Duck in 1990s and surely they draw only pure facts.

I also vouch for bags. Just purchase two boxes with the vacuum and make a habit to rip the model number out of the empty box and add it to grocery list immediately after one is empty. They're pretty cheap, mostly made out of paper so they're not that bad for the environment and the bag acts as an additional filter which saves actual vacuum filters and motor in the long run.
