Was saying a few days ago, scattering bomblets all over your own farmland in a defensive war is so obviously a bad idea that the fact that theyre doing it now feels like a tacit admission that theyre never getting that land back.

The problem is that capitalism is a force incompatible with balance or restraint, eternal competition isn't a sustainable status quo. Eventually someone will conpete their way into a position where they can change the rules and break containment. As long as there is capitalism and Capital, nothing is safe forever.

I mean it's literally what happened. It implies a bit of a rosy anthromorphization of the many varied and impersonal security interests that lead a nation-state to war, sure, but factually speaking, that's how it went down.
