Kay I need to ask, how does Lemmy use tankie? I've always thought it meant people who are willing to use violence against capitalist. I have a feeling I'm wrong.

Yeah I don't understand religions that view medicine with scepticism but practice prayer with complete confidence. If I was religious I'd see modern medicine as a mericle. We can cure most cancers easily. Granted not all cancers but most.

I don't think that is an actual rule of acquisition but it damned well should be.

Nothing and everything. Joe Rogan's 'I'll talk with anybody' reputation which made his show so appealing at the start landed a lot of right-wing extremists on that show. People began to criticize Joe Rogan for not having any standards and giving truely horrible people a platform. Typically the more left leaning a person was the more they criticized him and this has slowly pushed his opinions to the right over the last decade. Additionally a lot of Trump supporters began to see Joe Rogan's show as a means to popularize and legitimize their beliefs. Since Joe Rogan is so impressionable, and Trump supporters found a home there he made the final leap into right-wing conspiracy theories after Trump was elected and has been getting even more out of touch with reality ever since.

I don't think many people are but enough are and they're the ones with political influence. Not to defend Elizabeth Homes but why Elon Musk gets away with it is sexism, and being able to deliver on the odd promise then highlighting that success to cover for his failures. He's done much worse but he's given a pass because he presents the image of a male entrepreneur. Maybe not you or I but enough of those people with political influence are sexist and that's why the hammer came down on Homes. They both deserve to face justice but only one did.

Did you ever use Stmbl (formerly Stumble Upon)? For those who may not know, it was an add-on for Firefox. It added a button to the toolbar and when you pressed it you were taken to a random website someone else in Stmbl suggested. That thing was great, I found so much crazy random stuff. I'm pretty sure it's still around but most of the links are dead.

Unions can rotate strikes, it would be a form of workshare. Although that word is loosely defined so it could mean two people doing one job halftime like we saw during the pandemic. Anyway, rotation depends on how the previous collective bargaining agreement was written and if the owners are willing to allow it. Most often business owners will just shutter the doors rather than deal with that bullshit but it's possible.

I was just thinking that. If I didn't know what it was beforehand driving past it, I'd assume it was a Nazi swastika. Wonderful of that neighbor though. tlhIngan maH! taHjaj!

It's not that having a preference is problematic. There's a huge difference between trans/disabled chasing and being open to dating trans and people with disabilities. Chasing is a sort of fetishization mixed in with some dumb ideas about what masculinity is. Whereas a preference in dating is more along the lines of 'i like you and that part of you, you like me, let's do things together that we like.' The difference is about respect and equality in the relationship.

It will, but it won't change a single mind. That's why she's there, to make scandal after scandal in order to take over the news cycle. She's just doing her job just like Margarie T.G. did, and just like she replaced MTG once she's not useful as a distraction a new crazy lady will pop up to take her place.

Deep Space Nine is the best of Start Trek and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. It wasn't afraid to criticize it's self. Could Picard have done what Sisko did in The Pale Moonlight? I don't think so, Picard would have lost the war with the Dominion.

If I may offer my two cents, as a person who's spent a lot of time in America but isn't American. I don't think you guys can have that attitude anymore. He's a clear threat to your democracy and you need to defend your democracy, you need to organize. You need to start finding allies and make your voice heard. If you're not loud enough, find more allies. It won't fix the division that runs deep within your country but it might stop him.
