I liked a lot when first hearing of that, but didn't someone point out that whatsapp and apps like it could just not honor any of the security measures of signal and such and would just end up being a detriment to signal or something
I'd say the issue is the fear that studioheads can't distinguish good from bad representation and just see all as "media that tried to appeal fo x demographic/is about x demographic". So if it flops their takeaway would just be "people don't want media about these people" and move on
I don't think anyone ever brought up drag queens being behind it, OP's just using a word that has evolved in meaning. Much like how words like "stupid", "moron", etc went from official terms to refer to the mentally disabled, to slurs, to regular insults.
