The problem is that a lot of (admittedly overstretched) parents use the phone as a pacifier and don't monitor use much if at all.

Tommy's being a little shit? Give him the phone so he's distracted.

Of course, if little Tommy's never learnt to deal with being bored, keeping quiet for half an hour, and never learnt to concentrate for longer than the length of a tiktok video, he's going to have trouble adapting to education.

I worked as a teacher for a while until quite recently.

99% of public discourse on education, is based on the (traumatic or positive) individual experiences of people who went to school years if not decades ago, not people who actually know much about what they're talking about.

Not American. BasicFit and similar chains allow you access to all their gyms across Europe. Obviously, the car will be a problem here. If you can afford it, something like the citroen berlingo will do. They're everywhere, relatively affordable, and not super noticeable. If that's not an option, there's the library or public transport, combined with the occasional hostel. Not ideal, but better than sleeping on the street and not being able to wash at all.

The UK is not in the EU. That would cost more customs delays, formalities, and costs.

Musk is an idiot. There's a reason companies like McDonalds cooperate with unions in Europe. It's cheaper.

(Mein Deutsch is sehr schlecht. So to summarise: scary, dangerous, delicate shit, that needs to be handled carefully but ruthlessly. Luckily Germany has learnt from history, so you guys should be better able to combat it before it's too late.)

Just to add: rice + cheap ricecooker.

Perfect rice every time, no need to boil water so saves electricity, you can also use it to boil vegetables and chuck other stuff in.

I don't have an omafiets, but a single gear bike. The only gear it does have is quite tough to start, but my God is it so much better than something with 8 gears or whatever. So much less effort once you get going. I never realised this, but apparently you lose a lot of power through the gearing.

  • Get a cheap subscription to a 24h fitness with warm showers, lockers and wifi.
  • Combine with a library card.

This will allow you to live in your car or be homeless, in relative(!!!) comfort, and still be presentable enough to hold down a job.
