I checked and they've started filming a third season. Hopefully the strike doesn't kill it.

That's good to hear.

I've been delaying watching it for a while, in part due to how critical people were.

Perhaps that's silly, given my expectations aren't that high. I just want a fun show to fall asleep to. Every show doesn't need to be The Expanse or Counterpart.

No. I don't.

I find it depressing that young men feel forced to conform to societal and corporate expectations, rather than developing their own sense of style and buying the clothes they actually want to wear because they're old enough to have run out of fucks to give and lack the confidence to take risks.

I get that in your twenties and thirties, you're at the bottom of the corporate ladder, but live a little.

I mean, imagine if the only ice cream flavour was vanilla. That's what that sub was often like. I mean, it's fashion. Wear something fun or exciting, rather than dressing like an NPC all the time. You also need to live outside the office and you're not losing a promotion because your chinos were the wrong colour.

Just because an opinion is popular, does not mean it is correct. That is literally the argumentum ad populum logical fallacy.

And having lurked there, many of the people didn't visit to find clothes they liked wearing. The went there to find clothes that would conform to corporate/societal expectations and look 'smart'.

Reddit's already won. You can't even use /r/place with a recent account, and yet here on a community with the most die hard anti-reddit people, plenty clearly still haven't deleted their accounts.

The fuck /u/spez people who spent far too much time on /r/place, have driven up engagement, which will be a nice little bonus when it comes time to IPO. I assume they'll censor all of it toward the end anyway, so it doesn't matter. Shows investors reddit users may complain, but can't quit the site either. No one ever lost money selling heroin to junkies, even if they complained about how much it was ruining their lives. Hell, I hear that often when someone overdoses on a dealer's heroin, sales go up, because junkies think the drugs must be super strong.

It's honestly pathetic. Luckily reddit doesn't really matter that much.

But it be nice if the fediverse grows. Reddit will still exist and be popular, but we'll have a better community here.

Quick google. Here's an example of a small and relatively affordable motor you can buy:

https://hurricaneshutters.com/100nm-roll-shutter-motor

Max carrying capacity is 400lbs/200kg.

Some of the more powerful ones, you can basically hang on to the door as it's opening.

Heavy duty industrial ones? Metro stations where I live automatically open. On more than one occassion a homeless person makes the mistake of tampering with the metal roll down shutters come opening time. They get caught, motor keeps going, drags them into the mechanism and partially crushes them.

I've come across plenty without a manual release. No rope.

And yes, without a manual release you can't easily open it manually while the power's off. You need to overcome gravity and the motor. Forklift or a jack is the easiest way.

Direct drive stops it falling down uncontrollably.

Nope. Did maintenance for a while.

Some the roll garage door is connected directly to the motor which pulls/pushes it up a rail with teeth. Direct drive. No spring, even above the door.

Roll down storm shutters and theft prevention shutters often don't have them either.

Obviously, this is anecdotal for my area, and it's best to always check.

It's possible that the sealed motor unit has a small spring in it, but I'd often replace the entire thing.

Oh, absolutely. Not saying it's not possible. So check to be sure.

Mine doesn't. Used to work maintenance, plenty of electric doors, rolldown stormshutters and theft prevention shutters I encountered didn't have a spring.

On a manual door it's almost certain to use a spring.

Electric not always the case. Motors are apparently powerful enough.
