the countries that still use those just don’t have enough money to maintain a nuclear sub fleet

IRC the French have at least one diesel sub, the SMX-Ocean Range 30,000km.

They also have modern battery tech, the money and the tech to maintain/build nuclear subs. They have existing nuclear subs. The SMX-Ocean is actually quite modern. 2017 I think. Certainly more modern than most existing nuclear subs.

it’s cost efficiency not “better”.

Here's an article which explains why modern diesel subs can be quieter than nuclear subs:

https://navalpost.com/nuclear-submarines-diesel-electric-submarines-noise-level/

they are slow compared to nuclear subs

I googled. 20 knots for the SMX-Ocean. 25 for France's nuclear subs. Not a huge difference.

Unfortunately if you want to have a normal life as a gay man, you're basically forced to move to a city or leave the country.

I live in a country that legalised gay marriage before plenty of adults were born, and it's still an issue here.

I'm not even gay and I find it fucking tiring. I can only begin to imagine how tiring it is for you.

Honestly, I know the pride thing can be a bit much, but apparently us straight people need more gay stuff shoved in our faces if the mainstream is ever to change enough for you guys to feel comfortable doing 'shocking' stuff like holding your bf's hand, giving each other a chaste kiss in the morning, or taking your partner to a work related party.

Let alone actual equality. I mean, imagine actual mainstream movies which enthusiastically and blatantly sexualise the gay male body.

Hell, imagine what would happen if someone re-made Michael Bay's Transformers movie, replaced Megan Fox with some really hot 18 year old guy, include an extended shower scene, then all the gay teenagers went to see it and hung posters of that sexy twink on their bedroom wall. Then that hot twink went on to model swimsuits and was pictured with his oiled sweaty ass on bus stop posters across the nation in an advertising campaign for underwear. Then everyone rolled their eyes and said 'boys will be boys'.

Orwell on Hitler:

It is a pathetic, dog-like face, the face of a man suffering under intolerable wrongs. In a rather more manly way it reproduces the expression of innumerable pictures of Christ crucified, and there is little doubt that that is how Hitler sees himself. The initial, personal cause of his grievance against the universe can only be guessed at; but at any rate the grievance is here. He is the martyr, the victim, Prometheus chained to the rock, the self-sacrificing hero who fights single-handed against impossible odds. If he were killing a mouse he would know how to make it seem like a dragon.

Like the cop who beats up his wife, then cries because she made him do it, and convinces himself he's really the victim of the whole debacle.

Once you've heard that song 50 times, it really grows on you. Last episode and it made me a bit emotional.

While this is true, when I still used macOS, I simply learnt to use the terminal. It's unix like so it's not that hard. Allows you far more freedom. They basically lock away anything remotely difficult behind the terminal so that it scares off casual users. Basic stuff? GUI. Anything more difficult? Terminal.

I think apple's software is excellent. Certainly better than windows in many ways.

The hardware and how they treat customers when things break due to poor design? That's another matter.

I actually liked the first season of TNG.

Doesn't tesla record video from the inside of the car?

I seem to remember a story about them not giving a shit about data privacy and ordinary employees sharing footage of customers at tesla HQ, but I could be mistaken.

The Matrix is a 'trans metaphor', Lilly Wachowski says ... The Matrix first hit screens in 1999, when Lilly says "the corporate world wasn't ready" for an allegory - a story that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning - about transgender people.

Here's what one of the hormone pills used to transition looked like in the 90s:

Also, the Matrix is a trans allegory/metaphor, and the red pill is based on one of the hormone pills the Wachowskis likely used to transition.

Oh, but it gets better than that.

The Wachowskis, who directed the Matrix and transitioned, have admitted that the Matrix is actually in large part a trans allegory. Apparently one the pills used to transition was literally a red pill.

Which is why, if I remember correctly, when at one point Ivanka Trump and Elon Musk tweeted about taking the red pill, one of the Wachowskis replied that they should go fuck themselves.

Ah, what a time to be alive.
