I’m surprised he’s lived this long from what I’ve heard about his diet and lack of exercise.

Doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, has a good doctor.

Not that surprising.

Not if you need to communicate with people who use facebook.

This is what I dislike about big budget scifi.

When you're spending a lot on a show, you simply can't afford to take risks, do seemingly unimportant filler episodes, and the risk of cancellation is always high.

It's a bit like LEXX, the cult SF show from the 90s. Cheaply made, poor SFX, frankly insane plot, often outright bad, small audience Still managed to go for a full four seasons, wasn't ever cancelled but ended on its own terms and got to do some weird and wonderful stuff while it was on air. Meanwhile something like The Expanse, which was invariably high quality and had a large audience, was still cancelled before Amazon stepped in.

It's the same thing with B-movies. A lot of cheap crappy movies can be really interesting, exactly because they're cheap/crappy movies and no one cares. Gives the writers a lot of freedom.

Water would suffice for a few months given he's obese. Probably do him a world of good too.

It's not just the planes that are the issue. It's that apparently they launched the attack from within Russia and managed to attack what should be a highly secure airfield unimpeded.

An astonishing failure in security.

I don't think a system that's focussed on rehabilitation rather than punishment would be popular with American voters.

Countries that do focus on rehabilitation in western democracies, often hand out less long sentences and treat their prisoners relatively nicely. Their own cell, tv, etc. Still prison though, being robbed of your freedom is punishment in and of itself. On average that leads to better outcomes, lower recidivism, ....

But on a case by case basis, discovering someone who committed a heinous crime was let out after 10 years? Sure, often monitored, evaluated, and with stringent conditions. Sure, only if the chance they'll do it again is very low. But still. It doesn't feel right. Same thing with nice prison cells. Show the average American a Norwegian prison cell, and tell them it houses a rapist, and they'll be understandably offended. Think it isn't fair. Which it almost certainly isn't, but you don't lower the chance of repeat offending by sticking someone in a cage for ten years.

Also, I do wonder if these kinds of prisons are possible in a country without a semi-decent social safety net. If jail's better than being homeless, and homelessness is rampant, people will commit crimes just to escape. You end up rewarding criminals, because jail is comparatively nice compared to their existence outside jail.

Racists don't just exist in the south. They exist everywhere.

In fact, the ones who aren't openly racist are the most dangerous of all.

Traditionally meusli was never meant to be eaten with milk (or yoghurt for that matter). You're not alone in not liking it either.

Try apple juice instead, perhaps throw in some berries or sliced apple.

For those who don't know "the undiscovered country' refers to the famous 'to be, or not to be' speech in Hamlet. Travelling to the undiscovered country is dying. No surprise the Klingons love Shakespeare and claim him as their own.

Trek's full of Shakespeare references. IRC Shatner was Plummer/Chang's understudy for a Shakespeare play. Stewart is obviously a Shakespearian/RSC actor too, the character famously loves a bit of Shakespeare. Brooks/Sisko was a Shakespearean actor, so was Zimmerman. I think they've started including more references in Strange New Worlds.

Also explains the acting you sometimes see in Trek. Most of the big names all started out doing Shakespeare in theaters.

The media have been predicting Trump's demise for years now.

At point, I'll only believe it when Trump's been dead for a decade or two.

Time to celebrate by electing a pro-Russian populist or apologist.

Everyone should be treated with respect until they prove they don’t deserve it

They proved they didn't deserve respect by flying with airlines which are infamous for treating staff poorly, ignoring and outright breaking labour laws, regularly fucking over customers, and by flying relatively short distances rather (than taking a train, bus or even car) and being part of the problem when it comes to climate change.

Obviously, I know this is a hard truth, but if someone sees a kid drowning but chooses to eat an ice cream rather than help they're evil. Most people do that on a daily basis because the kid's drowning far away and off-screen. Why should underpaid employees have respect for customers who support a company that fucks people over, when its their turn to get fucked over?

They could instead earn some respect by buying a ticket with a regular airline that treats its staff properly, or by taking the train because although it takes a bit longer you're not killing the planet.

then you probably shouldn’t be working for a cheaper airlines

Most groundstaff work for a handler, not the airline itself. So in this case the cheap airline subcontracted my company to board and deboard the plane, take care of luggage etc. But crucially, the cheap airlines didn't pay us to handle complaints or deal with delays. So when a flight was cancelled, as often happened because they knowingly flew a schedule which was far too tight, customers would be left stranded and be told to call a call centre somewhere on a paying number. Once again, it's hard to sympathise, given these customers knew that this happened regularly, yet still went ahead and bought the cheap tickets anyway. We would however hand out little fliers and explain their rights under EU law. Said airlines would regularly flout the law when it came to legally required compensation. Obviously that's no different in the US.

In any case, you get what you pay for. Of course, this was only a short term starter job. They didn't pay enough to retain staff long term. This is common in the industry, which is why you'll occassionally hear stories about a kid sneaking past the gate and end up in the wrong destination or someone getting sucked into an engine. Staff would turn up drunk or high, not bother to check documents properly, not enter the weight of luggage correctly leading to balance issues, that kind of thing. You pay McDonalds wages you get McDonalds level employees. Have a safe flight!
