The one who knocked up a 12 year old when he was 19, and who claims their son (that he raised) is her brother.

Who do you think is pushing the climate change denial agenda?

Rupert Murdoch.

But if it came to it, if my death in a bayonet charge contributed to the destruction of Russia, sign me the fuck up.

And the deaths of your loved ones? Your sons, your nephews, your brothers? Still worth it?

Not to mention the lives of the soldiers you kill in battle. Every one of them as precious as yours.

Hey, quick question. Are you male and old enough to be drafted?

You seem a little eager for WWIII, and I'm wondering if you're going to be one of the people fighting in it.

This is Guam erasure.

Instead of releasing a huge number of these insects into trash sites (which isn’t practical)

Try it anyway!

But not too black (lemmy.world)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world to c/progressivepolitics@lemmy.world

The Democrats have now had two black presidential candidates (one who became president, and one who didn't), both of whom had fairly exotic backgrounds.

We had:

Barack Obama, who had a Kenyan father, and was raised by his white American mother, in Indonesia.

Kamala Harris, who had a Jamaican father, and was raised by her Indian-American mother, in Canada.

Notably, neither of them had African-American parents, and both spent much of their formative years outside of America.

I've been wondering for a while if there was any significance to this coincidence, and now I've realized what it is.

Because of their backgrounds, neither Obama nor Harris speak with any trace of African-American dialect or accent. I think that's what Democrats are after.

The Democrats are averse to African-American dialects and accents. They want a black person who sounds "white".

Would an African-American person who grew up in an African-American speech community ever have a chance of being the Democrats' presidential candidate?

All the people who were saying "But logically, Harris is still the best option" really misunderstand how people vote.

People vote with their heart. They have to be enthusiastic about their candidate. If they aren't enthusiastic, they stay home.

There was a burst of enthusiasm for Harris when she was nominated, because people thought she might do something about Gaza. That enthusiasm evaporated when we realized she probably wouldn't.

It's not just about being Arab. It's about what she stands for

Jill Stein also did well in Dearborn. She got 18% of the vote. (Jill Stein is not Arab.)

But OP was asking about travelling the world. Sign language wouldn't help with that.

Sign language isn't one language. There's American Sign Language, British Sign Language, Australian Sign Language, Nigerian Sign Language, etc.

American Sign Language and British Sign Language are completely unintelligible to each other.

That wasn't the start of the thread. The start of the thread was my comment (which your comment was a response to). You were changing the topic.

Read the thread again. It started with voting or non voting.

No, it didn't.

The New York Times predicts a Trump victory. The say the probability of a Trump victory is 90%.

Edit: Probability has dropped to 89% now, if that makes you feel better.

Edit: Now it’s 93%.

I can't wait for Democrats to accuse one of their own of being a Russian asset.

In case it wasn't already obvious, there clearly isn't a single Arabic speaker on AOC's team.

As far as I know, she is the only Democrat challenging Joe Biden for the nomination.

That’s weird. I thought they said it was because he had a cold.
