I don't get it. We didn't vote for Hillary in 2016 so that's why we had to put up with Biden in 2020? Hillary winning would have made Joe Biden not be 500 years old?

Didn't there used to be a rule in dunk tank require OP to provide a well-thought explanation? What happened to that? That would improve quality.

We have a comm for effort posting. The point of the_dunk_tank is to present a post and say to everyone "hey look how silly this is, let's ridicule it." If someone is going to break down why a post is wrong it should go to c/effort. If someone is just screen-shotting an Elon tweet, that's not really effort, it's just ridiculing someone with influence. In that case, if we keep everything the same, rule 8 should be better worded as "Don't ridicule people who have no influence in broader society." This avoids making it all about upvotes/views and, I think, touches on the main concern of those who want rule 8.

So

  • Elon tweet with explanation of history/sociology/economics = c/effort
  • Elon tweet with chiding mockery = c/the_dunk_tank
  • pepehittler69 says something ridiculous = who cares?

or

  • Elon tweet with explanation or mockery = c/the_dunk_tank
  • pepehitler69 says something ridiculous = c/okaybuddydunk

Yeah I'm kind of confused as to why people are acting like you can't have it both ways. It's a website. You can both have a place for people to freak out over posts from pepehitler69 and whatever ghoulish thing the NYT just said. It's no more a detriment to quality than the same 20 people calling Tom Friedman a ghoul for the 40th time.

People want to make fun of and critique a post they see somewhere else. Where do you think they should post it on hexbear?

I usually rent a truck to help get all the batteries to the beach. It makes throwing them in the ocean much more convenient.

Good to know the oppression of the marginalized is an arbitrary reason.

How do you get republicans (fascists) out of power at the federal level when Democrats at the federal level are friends with many republicans (fascists), covet republican (fascist) votes, and openly advocates having a strong republican (fascist) party? You're saying we should get rid of fascists by voting for the people who help fascism?

I'm going to disagree with my fellow Hexbear above and state that we're not even kicking the can with Biden. The progression towards fascism doesn't pause when a Democrat is in the chair. It continues the same just with different abstractions as the reasoning.

This exact thing happened under Trump. He fired people and kept a tighter inner-circle. If you're really honest you'll find Biden doing a lot of the same stuff Trump did.

This is mystical nonsense. Kind of like how ancient peoples explained nature using deities. It's just that people use bunk 17th and 18th century pseudoscience instead of gods.

Humans want enough. They don't naturally want more than others. It's the structure of society that creates greed. Greed is not a spirit inhabiting the bodies of individuals who then shape society to be greedy. It's a dialectical process between the base and the superstructure. It's not magical feelings stored in our DNA.
