I thought I understood US politics...even if it was by osmosis given the sheer volume we're exposed to...but lately I felt like I only understood the dem half...after the election I'm not sure and by now I have this "there is no hope of understanding this mess, different culture, different values" that I get from trying to understand Indian politics.

But the fringes are fickle, that's what I'm saying, if they are decisive, they will disappoint you. There is a long list of demands that you'll never be able to meet or if you do, you're potentially going to anger the right-wing of your voters and lose more than you get.

I actually think the lesson is (from listening to lefties, tankies and to dems after the election):

If your strategy relies on votes from the 1% fringes, then you're probably going to lose. If you can't convince normies to vote for you, you're lost.

I wouldn't say it was prophetic, because most of it was already there in 2000, but less virulent. But yeah, Mike Judge had to push against the industry to get it out, so at least some corpos were aware of what he was saying too. That is why it wasn't higher, because Fox tried to neglect-kill it.

Cool, I expect demand for female drivers is to increase a lot.

Calling them "students" is not helping, the work is often part of their professors' output. Maybe should be called research apprentices/assistants/interns or just PhD candidates.
