It's a requirement, and a flaw, of the adversarial justice system, particularly where lawyers arent appointed, but hired. It breaks down if there isn't a vigorous defense of the accused, but it is exacerbated by money giving access to more capable defense, which can lead to rich people having a license to do whatever they want, up to and including killing their spouses.

Ah, there's the problem when trying to move stuff between Windows and my Steam Deck.

The problem with this, and it's a serious one, is that gives them the opportunity to say no.

I will need to buy a new TV soon, and the single biggest factor won't be price, features, or quality, it will be the absolute minimum smart features available. I'm fine with a sleep timer, and built-in audio smoothing would be great, but I can add anything else I want with a dongle that costs less than $100 (or just attach a full-blown computer to it). I'm not made of money, but I'm fortunate enough that I can afford to buy a TV with something other than an opportunity to invade my private life for marketing.

The other thing I'm looking for is a decent non-Google/Apple smartphone with an eye to privacy. A decent Linux phone would be great, Sailfish OS looks promising, maybe there are other options. Hopefully my Samsung lasts until then. When one of their updates came out whose main feature seemed to be the ability to spy on you everywhere, I closed my account and don't even have that logged in anymore. There are a number of interesting features I can't use, and a lot of terrible features I don't want, that aren't available to me anymore. A smartphone that belongs to me, and not some corporate conglomerate would be nice. We'll see.

Libertarians, in general, want to reap the benefits of society without paying the costs. I don't imagine Amazon would have grown to the size it did if there weren't ports for the ships to dock in, roads for the trucks to drive on, an internet to advertise on, and all the rest of it, yet they feel beset upon for being asked to pay the taxes that help provide all those things.

Anti-vaxer truckers are the same, but writ small and in human form.

A vote for Carney was largely a vote against Poilievre. There were clear indications of that being the case, to the point where the Liberals fielded a candidate whose biggest draw was essentially, "I'm not Pierre." And if it was clear enough to them, maybe the CPC should have taken a cue and fielded their own "I'm not Pierre."

That issue can be solved by means other than saying, "Sorry, there's already a John Smith on the list, try again next year." Let's focus on the real problems.

To add on to this, unless we enact political slavery, which while it might sound fun is not likely to make politicians who are subject to it vote in the best interests of the country, then politicians are going to be able to leave their positions at any time anyways, so a by-election is the only reasonable way to ensure the constituents of their riding are properly represented. And if you put some kind of significant delay before people can run in a by-election keep in mind this one is already going to be about 6 months since the last one, and that becomes less of an impediment the richer you are, meaning it gives an advantage to wealthy parachute politicians with no real benefit to citizens.

There are a number of interesting links on this page. Also, here's the contact page for Steven Guilbeault, the minister in charge of national parks. Let them know what you think.

Accidentally crushed by a multidimensional horror in the throes of passion?

Trying to think of the best supernatural death, has me laughing.
