I took it to mean "even a child could do it!" rather than "we could make children do this."

There are a lot of things we did by hand once upon a time that are now done by computers and motors. Why do you imagine a modern sailing ship would use manpower to raise and lower sails?
Smaller ships would require more manpower per ton, but not as much as was required on classic sailing ships.
This has not always been the case, nor does it have to be now. I'm not what has to be done to get government officials on board, but if that doesn't change soon the future looks pretty bleak.
Sorry, where I live they call free public buses shuttles, usually for short routes with many stops such as downtown.
While I get what you're saying, and fuck them for wanting to hoard public resources, a shuttle here would be less damaging to the area and allow ample parking where it isn't impacting those public resources as much. And if done right, would even allow people without cars to enjoy this resource.
Learn how to do math in your head for the sheer pleasure of it, instead!
It could also be that the impatient people on the road keep cutting them off, leaving them with less than two seconds between them and an ignorant driver who you will have to prove cut you off or you're at fault for the accident. Of course, that doesn't happen if there's no space in front of you for someone to cut in. So there's my hypothesis.
Sadly, there are many places in Canada with the same problem. I blame Americans for that, too.
I have to downvote you on the hazelnuts not being very good. They're one of my favorite nuts, and they look cool!
On the flip side, I have a job where there are a number of roles where all you have to do is be ready until idle time stops. There are no restrictions outside of safety. When I've covered those jobs, I take it as a break from my regular job and enjoy some music or an ebook. I've seen others studying when it was their regular job. And I've seen some experience emotional distress, not from the boredom of their job but because it doesn't allow them to be distracted from their personal lives.
I assumed this would be the case, but also did some quick research before I responded. There's a cargo sailing ship from over 100 years ago still in active service. It's called the Avontuur. And apparently, interest in commissioning new sailing cargo ships is on the rise.
