Britta: “I can excuse genocide, but I draw the line at nepotism.”

Shirley: “You can excuse genocide?!”

The dam that broke is that a single white American man was killed.

It’s the apotheosis of that Shaq meme:

Tens of thousands of brown people - most of whom are women and children - are murdered in horrific ways: I SLEEP

One white American dude killed by the IOF: REAL SHIT

@Gluebear mentioned the White House Iftar dinner. Here’s a full write up with selected quotes:

Why Biden’s iftar dinner unraveled amid Gaza war

Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the deputy director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), also said the event was nixed because so many people chose not to attend, including invitees who had initially agreed to go.

“The American Muslim community said very early on that it would be completely unacceptable for us to break bread with the very same White House that is enabling the Israeli government to starve and slaughter the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Mitchell told Al Jazeera.

Several Muslim American activists said the meeting will be another futile “photo-op”, arguing that the Muslim community has made its position known over the past six months.

“These photo-ops that they’re doing — these discussions that they’re doing to somehow show they still have the Muslim community’s support — are just pathetic attempts to make themselves look good at a time where their true colours have been seen,” Habehh told Al Jazeera.

A key issue with such talks, activists say, is that the administration has been handpicking whom to meet with. A Muslim advocate close to the administration presented a list of credible Palestinian American leaders to invite for a meeting at the White House last year, but the government rejected the suggested individuals, one source told Al Jazeera.

I made a comment yesterday in this thread, about the ethics of the pro-Palestine movement to try and signal boost the American who was killed the other day because he was a beefy white dude. Because racist, reactionary white Americans (but I repeat myself…) may not care about thousands of brown kids suffering and dying horrible deaths, but someone who looks like who they idealize as the All American Male? That might actually work.

I did not expect this outcome, however…

Found an article on CNN dated April 14, 2022 - so that's about 50 days after Russia began the SMO. I'll just paste the headline and the first few sentences, that's what matters:

Biden calls atrocities in Ukraine a ‘genocide’ for the first time

President Joe Biden said Tuesday the atrocities being uncovered in Ukraine qualify as genocide, a designation he’d previously avoided but that he now believes is warranted as scenes of devastation emerge from towns once overrun by Russian troops.

“I called it genocide because it’s become clearer and clearer that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin is just trying to wipe out even the idea of being Ukrainian. The evidence is mounting,” Biden told reporters in Iowa after using the term earlier in a speech.

“It’s different than it was last week, the more evidence that’s coming out,” he continued. “Literally, the horrible things that the Russians have done in Ukraine – and we’re going to only learn more and more about the devastation.”

“We’ll let the lawyers decide, internationally, whether or not it qualifies,” he concluded, “but it sure seems that way to me.”

The Genocider-in-Chief couldn't wait two whole months to declare that Russia was committing a broad genocide. He won't even condemn Israel much less say it's a genocide. Russia, on the other hand, gets that label with nary any actual evidence.

So apparently there's "overproduction" but not in the sense of unsold inventories (which is what overproduction actually means), but rather in the fact that western producers aren't able to compete at those prices. Yellen claims that China is "interfering" in the market and propping domestic production at loss, which even if it's true this Administration's signature achievement in almost 4 years is massively (and unsuccessfully) subsidizing domestic chip production.

Edit: Good writeup on this at Naked Capitalism here

You could argue Trump would be just as evil as Biden in Gaza, and I wouldn’t disagree. But the reality is, Biden is president and Trump is not. Biden is the one who is the war criminal w/r/t Gaza.

Assume every single crime liberals say Trump did or even possibly did is true. You put all that on one side of the scales of justice and the evil Biden has perpetuated in Gaza would still far outweigh all of Trump’s lifetime of sins, real and imagined.

I really have a hard time with fictional depictions of torture. It’s why I had to stop watching Game of Thrones, and why I would never watch any of the Saw movies. But ultimately, I know I’m just watching actors and it’s all fake.

A big reason I deconverted from Christianity was because of their doctrine of eternal torment.

But what’s happening in Gaza is actual, extreme physical and mental torture of a population. I’ve pretty much had to stop looking at any more photos or videos from Gaza, I can’t bear it.

Death to Israel.

The GOP has shown the executive does have a lot of power, it reaffirms that Biden could do something but is actively choosing not to.

Right, so it’s only a factor in one of the six states that determine the election. I would not call that particularly determinative for the final result. Abortion will not determine the outcome of the election, but Gaza very likely will. Or said another way, it would be incredibly bad campaign strategy for Biden to rely on abortion to carry him to victory while continuing to help genocide Palestinians.

Yeah at what point do you talk about pErSoNaL rEsPoNsiBiLiTy with Biden. There is no way Biden and every single person around him isn’t aware how badly his policies w/r/t Gaza are killing him with voters. And yet he continues on. If you know you are doing something to tank your chances of winning and you do it anyway, why is your eventual loss on us leftists?

I’ve mentioned this before, but no lib has been able to explain the mechanics of how Trump could be worse than Biden on Gaza; because Biden already has his foot mashed down on that gas pedal.

Biden is giving Israel all the weapons they could want and then some. The administration is providing cover for the Zionist entity at institutions like the UN and ICJ, as well as domestically in press conferences and PR. There is not one iota of evidence that Biden has applied any pressure whatsoever on Netanyahu. So… what else is there for a president to do? Literally the only way a president could go any further would be to (openly) put US troops on the ground and bombers in the air. But everything about Trump’s past indicates that’s definitely a bridge too far even for him.
