remember those website that say “oh you are using an ad blocker so disable it to access our site”

I can easily imagine this not being a necessary, anymore. Just let the website using this WEI API automatically disable all browser extensions on a WEI-enabled site. Why not, after all? Why should you dictate the traffic you receive on your computer? Why should you own anything?

🫡 Still worth the read as usual.

To the people who are talking about Spotify not offering high quality, what's wrong with Spotify Premium's 256kbps AAC? That's pretty dang high quality...

So are you saying I could still log in and use Netflix on my laptop? I haven't tried out of fear of messing something up.

When I was last home I did set up Jellyfin from my dad's PC (which is basically always on) and downloaded a few movies for them. But some of the movies had inconsistent subtitles or needed massaging. Or Jellyfin needed to take an extra moment to transcode the subtitle format for some reason. So if I were able to ensure that stuff is all sorted out, it works great. But if I'm not there it might get weird.

When I last tried it, it runs really well. But I prefer the mouse/keyboard interface to the gamepad one.

That's awesome. Your comment just sent me back to the good old days of PSP hacking, and to a lesser extent PS Vita hacking. The homebrew on PSP was really special particularly because of the sheer numbers of PSPs sold. I'd love to see an OpenMW Vita version someday :)

I really wanted to cancel my subscription. I consider piracy to be a moral option against the aggressively repressive sonny bono copyright law. But I can't pull the rug out from my mom's feet back home (I live in another state). So instead of getting to cancel in protest like how I want, I still just pay for one Netflix subscription that I don't use personally.

I think one of the most insidious things about Photoshop is that it is a powerful, complex program. Using it is a skill. Which means that even if you think you are getting the better of Adobe by pirating their software, you are still building your own skills with their program, which is so full of features that classes can be taught about using it. In the end, that's a win for Adobe and their proprietary software, because if you end up getting good enough to make money from that program, you will end up finding yourself in a position where you eventually pay them, or work for someone who does. This is to the detriment of any other photo editor, of course. You won't care about how good GIMP or anything else is, much less fund it, because you won't want to use it, because you know Photoshop.

If I had deep wallets I would love to start funding GIMP for development and rebranding. But I don't have that kind of cash to push around :P

Wait, I don't get this. Https certs are trivial to acquire and keep up-to-date with Let's Encrypt. You can deploy a server like Caddy that will handle most of it for you. I'm a schmuck whose own website is self-hosted and I put an nginx rule to redirect http to https, because I don't think anyone along the path between your computer and my website deserves to eavesdrop on the conversation.
