Yeah, I agree, it doesn't help. In car dealerships? That at least doesn't affect people who bought a tesla because they cared for the environment before Elon went full Nazi.

You are not engaging with my criticism.

I'll refrase it, maybe I was unclear the first time.

  1. The Comic is about one specific insident, which is provided with the original.

  2. The picture here stirps it of that context.

Hence the picture here is suggesting that the original tweet made fun of ALL immigrants. Most peoples posts here are working from the assumption that this is the case.

Im not saying it is okay to make fun of this woman. A person smuggling Fentanil (if that is even true) still does not deserve to be mocked in this way.

I saying it is not okay to strip the tweet of the context, because it makes the goverment look worse on purpose (making fun of all immigrants, not one specific case). And yes, that is a tactic used by the right lot. I'm not saying "both sides do this so it's okay when it happens on the right". I'm saying the left should be better than that.

The goverment are all ready acting like fashists. There are plenty of things to be critical of that are ture - why try to play up something like this? Why lie?

No "both sides are equaly bad". Just a "our side should be above this".

So there is some context to it. She has been arrested for smuggling Fentanil, reentered the US again and got arrested once more.

The image is making fun of her specifically, not so much the all out "immigrants are bad and nobody cares if they cry" message that is suggested by not posting said context with it. Making fun of sonedoby in this way can be m condemned morally too of course, but it's not how people ITT are aporachig the issue.

This is the kind of "I want my worldview reassured so I will ignore the context" behaviour that I see a lot on the right. The more I am on Lemmy, the more I see this same aporach.

So this is nothing more than left wing propaganda.

I know this will get me some downvotes, but I encourage you to argue why I am wrong too. Because I think I am right now, but I am open to change my mind.

For me it's bit like living in a village vs. living in a city. You kind of get to know some users here because you see them around a bit, even if you don't always interact with them.

What are you talking about? There is a literal "Stop Oligarchs" Tour going on right now.

So Jesus was probably very anti Roman, and killed by the Roman state as a potential revolutionary leader. Later, Paul (or his forgers) realizes that rewriting some of the theology a bit to be more sympathetic to power might be helpful.

Isn't that the gospel of Matthew?

To my knowledge his employer let him rewrite the gospel in a more pro Roman way, possibly to make the religion that was spreading amongst Romans more accesable to them.

Eh, I don't know. I mean, sure, there are stereotypes.

But it feels a bit different. I thinks it's the difference between friendly banter, like friends do it sometimes, and blatant bullying.

I've done a little experiment. I went to https://witze.net/ , a website that is German and filled with humour that must be at least 30 years old. Many jokes refer to cultural events from that time (there was one about the explosion of the Challenger, which was in 1986). So that should give a good example of the time period I was reffing to.

You find examples of friendly banter for the French, etc.:

"Whats European heaven like?

The Englishman opens the door for you, the French is cooking, the Italian is the Entertainment and the German takes care of organising everything.

What's European hell like?

The Frenchman opens the door, the Englishman is cooking, the German is the Entertainer and the Italian takes care of organising everything."

Not funny, but also just a play on stereotypes. It's like that.

The polish stereotype is "they are thiefs".

"Whs do Russians always steal two cars? Because they have to drive trough Poland on their way back."

"Why is Viagra not allowed in Poland? Because everything that stands longer than 10 Minute is stolen."

And on and on.

Am I imagining that there is a difference if your stereotype is "bad at humour" (which the German website proves quite well ironically) or "steals everything all the time"?

I agree 100%. We need to move past believing things just because they got our world view.

During my childhood, in Germany, during the ninetees and early 2000s, it was manly making fun of the Polish for beeing thiefs or beeing overrun in WWII.

Insanely racist time, looking back now, but it was just completly normalised.
