I actually don’t hate this but you would probably need a strong front office and reputable head coach to pull off a move like this. There was no noise in KC when they essentially did this. Alex Smith was a pro and they had him play one more year and then moved on.

Building an offense around fields would be frustrating. A good qb and offense can do multiple things. Fields struggles with screens, quick game, finding a hot in a spread formation. Hard to bootleg when all they are doing is trying to keep him in pocket. You need to be able to beat teams in multiple ways. You need to deal from the pocket.

I watch Drake carry his team to a win making play after play, only to flip over to USC and see Caleb Williams spin around run backwards and get stripped. I get that’s not fair, it’s just timing, I’m not breaking down film, it’s just a tough look and trend from Williams.

I’m very curious how fields will look with better defense play and offensive line. Maybe with a better defense he will not feel the need to play hero ball and take negative plays. Punting is ok sometimes if your defense isn’t horrible. He has never been able to win a game just taking what the defense gives him.
