The problem with sustainable fuels is that they also cost a lot of resources. Those resources can come from farm land that could be put to better use instead. The energy required to create these alternative fuels also has to come from somewhere, which usually isn't mostly renewable either.

Furthermore the biofuels and efuels may be better for CO2 emissions, but still dump a lot of pollution in the air.

Until people start to rely less on their cars, the uptick of EV's will lessen fossil fuel usage. For many people car sharing would also be a good option for when they need a car. That cuts down on resource usage.

The best EV's in my opinion are human/electric hybrids, aka electric bicycles. They help people choose a bicycle over another motorized form of transportation, because it's often just a convenient and cheap option that gets you from where you are to where you want to go, when you want to go there... Something public transport isn't very good at outside cities, unless combined with (e)bikes or scooters for example for the last miles.

Had a Galaxy S2 and then a Note 2. By the time that last one was up for replacement, Samsung had gone curved edges, which I disliked. Switched to OnePlus 3, later 7T and that was my last OnePlus as I didn't like where the brand was going.

Luckily Samsung ditched the curved edges, so I currently have an S22+. I'm quite satisfied with this one and I also got a Galaxy watch after having some quality issues with Fitbit devices. Both work together nicely as you'd expect.

That would be too much freedom for the "land of the free".

Thermal Camera for flir one.

I just tested it again and it doesn't work anymore on my phone. It also hasn't been updated since 2017. YMMV though.

The strange thing is that I also have a FLIRone pro (Android version with USB-C in my case), but that one still has the scale lock feature. There's also an alternative app by a 3rd party developer if I'm not mistaken.

Those airbag vests really add quite a bit of protection. I've seen a case where a guy crashed into a car (driver on phone made an illegal maneuver), totaling both his bike and the car he hit. He survived without major injuries (basically only bruises and some pulled muscles). According to him (and the paramedics) the consequences would've been lot more severe if he hadn't been wearing it.

I'm a big fan of airbag vests. Those really help reduce the consequences of a lot of accidents...

ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time. Get quality gear, suitable for the rides you want to do (doesn't make sense to buy expensive Goretex gear if you don't expect to ride in the rain regularly for example) and wear it, no matter how long your ride is.

Get some frame sliders or so for when you almost inevitably drop your bike.

Most motorcycle accidents happen because the rider made a mistake. Common causes:

  • alcohol or drugs
  • excessive speed
  • not being seen easily enough

Learn to be a better rider. No matter how much you ride, there will always be some bad habits that sneak into your riding style. Take a refresher course every now and then, so they can point them out to you.

Learn to ride more defensively, and make yourself seen (Fortnine's YT video on invisibility is a good one for example).

Last but not least... Watch some crash compilations on YouTube, because those allow you to learn from other people's mistakes. You will probably make some of those mistakes as well.

Thank you for your insights. It's always interesting to read about somebody else's experiences, when they share your background. Similarly I find it interesting to hear from foreigners who live in Belgium, because the differences in culture can be quite large sometimes.

I just got here after looking for an alternative to Reddit. So far, I have to say I'm quite impressed by how well it works. I haven't had any major issues yet. I hope Lemmy gains some traction and will continue to grow, but I also hope it doesn't grow too quickly.

I still end up on Reddit every now and then when a search takes me there, but I don't go there to browse anymore.
