Valve is also a privately owned company. They don't need to make more money this quarter vs last quarter to keep shareholders happy, they can just be happy that they're making a lot of money. That requirement to always become more profitable than before leads companies to enshitify products with anti-consumer "features" and cut costs (ie layoffs).

Here in America, we are absolutely free to live our lives exactly the way conservatives want us to. Unless of course you're not white, in which case your right to exist is always a little up in the air.
I think the millions of slaves in America would disagree when the British empire outlawed slavery 30 years earlier without having a civil war over the issue.
