pH will be a good measure of safety, that was my main concern lol. But if you're saying they can't turn a drink dangerous then that's good news!
It's your message, and you know them better than me! Follow your instincts. Those were just my takeaways. If they were aware of you looking at their reddit account before and they were fully or mostly okay with it, then maybe it's okay to mention it.
And yeah, I get the "shorthand for deeper, complex feelings" thing. I would just ask myself, what is the main goal of this note? Is it to get them out of a dangerous situation by giving them an outside perspective? Or is it to try and mend the relationship? Can you fit both goals into one short message?
- Limited user numbers means seeds would dry up pretty quickly for rare files and even some popular ones.
- Private trackers typically keep a lot of info on their users (such as a snatch list which lists the things I've legally or illegally downloaded) that I'd rather not give to a site that also has a politically subversive/marginalized culture.
- This is the big one: starting a fundamentally illegal enterprise gives the feds a legitimate reason to shut us down and possibly to arrest users/mods/admins. Sharing a link to a torrent site or two doesn't do that, but us hosting the torrent/magnet links and facilitating it does.

Most private trackers require you to register with your "real" ip address, but we could buck that trend. That said, I always think it's best to separate legal but distasteful-to-the-feds forum posting from enterprises like file-sharing that are explicitly against the law. Because file sharing rings get busted pretty often and I'd rather hexbear not be taken down.

You know, you can buy both malic acid and citric acid as a powder. You could easily make your own sour warheads soda. 
Just be careful, ~~calculate out the pH of whatever you mix up~~ and always have a water flush (a sink you can shove in your mouth or eyes) nearby.
Edit: I've been told that Malic and citric acids are weak acids and can't really hurt you that much in a drink.

Only the outer like 1% of the candy would add sourness. The rest is mostly sugar and mellow fruit flavoring. So you'd be wasting a bunch of money there.
Also, watch the video I linked. Arguably, these acidic powders are as useful in cooking as salt.
