To be fair, most phones don't have easily replaceable batteries anymore either. I remember in an interview that one of the steam deck leads said they really wanted an easier to replace battery, but it was a compromise they ended up making. I think they blamed it partially on inexperience with hardware production, and that they hoped to do better on future hardware.

My most played game was Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, followed by Metaphor ReFantizio, both excellent games, as well as being new releases that run well on Deck.

Some lesser played games I would really recommend:

  • Demon Tilt/XenoTilt - really cool pinball games. Play great on deck, and are great for short high intensity play sessions.
  • Shadow's of Doubt - I've recommended this a few times, it's a full simulation detective game. Solve serial murders in a city where every NPC has a fully simulated life routine. You can roleplay it different ways, but it's easy to fall into a Rorshack style of detective, breaking into crime scenes, cleaning their fridge out of beans, and robbing the house blind as you hunt for clues.
  • Pseudoregalia - Short but great 3d metroidvania, with really great freedom of movement. One of those games where moving around itself can be a joy.
  • Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - delightful 3d platformer, has fun movement and is a really happy game.

Supposedly their cloud hosted version will block those responses, but the local run version does not.

Plus, if you try to sell the monster at a higher cost than coke, what would stop someone from dumping the coke, and refilling with monster? Paying the lower innitial price, and now getting refills.

People have been doing that for years with buying water, and then filling it with fountain drinks.

I suppose you could counter it the same way that some stores handled the soda refill issue. Have the energy drink refills behind the counter, where only employees can refill it. Have a special cup so employees can tell which customers actually bought an energy drink. Also gives employees a chance to intervene if someone tries to get too much and kill themselves (like with the Panera Bread lemonade/

I wear a bone conductive headset a lot of the time, and I have it set to read out calls or important messages to me. Smartwatches have a similar use, but goal is to not miss a call while also having the phone on silent.

Exploring beginner friendly caves is really cool. But tight passages like this and the nutty putty cave one are absolutely terrifying, and I want nothing to do with it.

I think the issue is that devices with screens are usually meant to be your window to experience something else. When you get immersed in something, you forget about the device and focus on the experience.

I like playing games, and when I get into a game the focus is on the game itself, not the controller/TV/etc. I've had dreams about games, but it's always me experiencing the game directly and not focused at all on the details of how I'm accessing the game.

I think it's the same with phone use, but the experiences we get on a phone are harder to imagine as a"direct experience". Things like sending a text message don't convert well to a fully immersive experience, so I think our brain skips over them.

That's true, and that's why so many internet censorship it spying bills are officially to counter pedophiles.

Banning tiktok is clearly controversial though, and I honestly don't think it's trying to soften people up to the government banning social media.

I think tiktok should probably be banned, but I think that "it's ok because the chinese government does it" is a pretty flimsy argument.

I mean they're also banning chinese networking hardware, chinese phone manufacturers, chinese software in cars, considering banning chinese drones, potentially banning tencent games, etc etc

I'm feeling pretty confident that the goal here is banning chinese spying considering all the other bans.

The game was "The Pale Beyond"

Here was them saying 10% of sales were on Deck.

Later on, after the game had been out awhile and had some sales, the percentage of deck players dropped to a still respectable 5%.

My interpretation of that is that the Deck users were more likely than non-Deck users to pay full price for the game at launch. Considering that deck users only make up 0.6% of players based on Valve's hardware survey, it would seem like Deck owners buy far more games than the average user.

It's also possible that the hardware survey is underreporting decks though, significantly more decks have been sold than 0.6% would represent, and I know I get far more valve hardware survey requests on my desktop vs Deck, even though nearly all my playtime is on Deck.

How do we feel about libertarians?

Battery tracker is a new plugin that seems pretty useful. Gives a chart of tracked battery levels, but more importantly it tracks the average power draw of the different games you run.

Some games draw wildly different amounts of power depending on area/etc, so getting average numbers for your total play session will be really useful for getting real battery use numbers.

To install, you need to first have decky loader installed, and you should find it in the decky store. You don't need to be in the testing branch of the store or anything, just the normal channel.

The game runs well on Steam Deck and hits playable framerates at all settings except maximum.

Roblox updated their client some months back, and the anticheat didn't work with Linux at all. However, it looks like they're working on fixing this and the game is now playable on their very early access "zcanary" builds.

I suspect this Lemmy Steam Deck community has an older average age, and as a result may not have that many Roblox players. But the popularity of the game is undeniable and having it work on Steam Deck again will be great for a lot of people.

Adding to a growing list of new features to be released in the 3.5 update, a new temperature color option has been added. It lets you set the blue to yellow light range of the screen.

Other additions coming in the 3.5 update include a saturation slider, HDR support for external displays, additional display upscaling options (including Nvidia Image Scaling), improved SMT handling (no more needing to turn SMT off for emulators), updated kernel, and more stuff that I'm probably forgetting.

New update adds controller support, fixes performance problems in some areas, and added some other new content. The game is now Steam Deck Verified.

Full patch notes are available here.

The 256GB and 512GB Steam Decks come with some digital rewards, such as an exclusive steam profile customization bundle and a unique virtual keyboard (keyboard is 512GB only). Previously these rewards were not available to refurbished deck buyers, but Valve plans to change that and make these rewards available regardless of whether you buy new or refurbished.

Glad co-op is finally here, going to get some good use out of my dock.

ProtonDB now has separate tabs for easier browsing of Steam Deck or PC reports. You can also view a combined tab that includes reports from both.

Both categories can be pretty useful, but some game fixes can only be found in the PC section. A lot of the PC report creators are more experienced Linux users and know of fixes that may not show up in the Steam Deck section.
