In Japan, the patents they filed for were "extensions" of existing older patents. The new patents "updated" the old patents and could be used as if they filed when the original patent was. So they were able to file patents after Palworld came out, and then sue as if the patents existed before Palworld. Seems like bullshit to me, but I'm not a lawyer.

I don't know if a similar mechanic can be used in the US patent system or not.

Part of the goal of the app is to filter those down. So for example, you might filter by Metroidvanias, verified only, very positive+ only, sorted from quickest to beat to longest to beat.

I definitely wouldn't want to scroll through my entire library this way.

I don't really mind spending a few bucks for a one time purchase on something I'll use. The dev has clearly put in a lot of time to try to make this a really convient place to reference a lot of sources, and I'm fine with them charging a one time fee for it.

That game looks interesting. It's not something I would have given a second look without your recommendation, but looking at the details and reviews it sounds like it could be pretty fun. Does it work well as a multiplayer title?

I've found I can cap the TDP on several games without any noticeable change in performance. The important part is to remember that you set a cap, if you start getting FPS drops in another part of the game. It sucks to have a game performing poorly, and not remember that you set a TDP limit when you tried the game out months ago.

There are also some games that have bugged cpu or gpu clock speed, where the game will run one at max clock speed unnecessarily causing extra power drain and performance issues (for example the CPU may be using too much power and staving the GPU, even though the CPU doesn't need to be running at max speed). For capping cpu you have to use the decky plugin power tools or another method.

Checking on ProtonDB is a good place to look for recommended performance tweaks, looks like a lot of reviews there mention capping Cassette Beasts at 10 TDP, and a couple more mention capping the GPU speed at 800.

I've heard really good things about it. There's a lot of strong competition in that space (people don't feel pokemon is suitably meeting the needs of the genre), but it's one of the games I hear recommended the most.

If you go into desktop mode, go to steam settings, and go to controller, there's an option to change non-game controller layouts. I'm not 100% sure you can change game-mode layout there, but it's definitely the first place I would check.

I always appreciate when games come with a deck preset

The mics work well, but the speech to text can be hit or miss sometimes. You have to talk more clearly than you would when using your phone's speech to text

Yes, they're big games. You can get through them much faster if you skip side content, but that's a lot of the charm of the games.

Someone actually made a really good guide on it about a week ago:

Played through that last month, had a great time with it. Made me want to go back and replay Jet Set Radio, but the movement in JSR felt really bad after having recently played BRC.

22 games to choose from, 2 for $15 / 3 for $22 / 5 for $35 / 7 for $48

Some notable and recommended games include:

  • Death Stranding: Director's cut edition
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Control: Ultimate Edition
  • Disco Elysium The Final Cut
  • Bloodstained
  • The Forgotten City
  • Ghostrunner
  • Ace Attorney Trilogy
  • Dysmantle
  • Resident Evil 3
  • A Plague Tale Innocence

Between the recent Steam sale and all the good bundles lately, I'm interested to see what everyone's playing.

At launch, Steam Deck players made up 10% of the playerbase for The Pale Beyond. 9 months later after sales/etc that number has dropped to 5%.

Both numbers are significantly more than the steamOS user percentage (0.5%), so we can make the assumption that Steam Deck users make up a disproportionately high amount of games sales, and particularly full price sales for new releases.

Quick summary of the article

  • New fan, it's quieter than both of the previous fans. Will be a huge upgrade for Delta fan users.

  • Old SSD will work, so anyone with a larger SSD from their previous deck should be able to move the SSD with all their games over to the new deck.

  • While the deck is easier to open with the new screws, there is now a ribbon cable run on the outside of the heat shield over the SSD. This cable is glued in place, meaning it's required to disconnect the cable and carefully separate it from the adhesive. An unfortunate decrease in repairability for the device.

  • Most old accessories will work fine, with the exception of replaceable back plates. Even screen protectors should work, since most covered the bezel before.

  • Carrying case has several improvements on the larger model, including Velcro to hold it closed with the zipper closed, and a removable insert case that offers a slimmer, lower protection option.

  • The charging light on the deck is now multi-colored and can change color to let you know when the deck is fully charged.
