Yeah, unfortunately with any game that requires a decent number of online users to work, it's not enough to just be a great game. You need either luck or a lot of money to spend on advertising to get the necessary player amounts to function.

Yeah, I really like DLSS/FSR/etc for letting newer games run on old systems. But I don't feel like it should ever be necessary for modern hardware to run it well.

Ray tracing in general is a big culprit in this, it has such a high performance hit. That was fine back when Ray tracing was optional, but we're increasingly seeing games with mandatory ray tracing now. Indiana Jones and the upcoming Doom The Dark Ages requiring it for lighting is a mistake imo, not something that computer hardware in general is really ready to be a default.

How well does Avowed run on it?

Haha that explains where you got the number from, but still have no idea how you remember it. I suppose they do provide a helpful jingle.

Supersquirrel, I really appreciate the effort you put into your game recommendations. You really do a good job of explaining why a game is worth checking out.

Also, the Due Process game just changed their anti-cheat to support Linux, which is great to see.

How did you come up with that username?

This is also nice because every state doesn't have to pass this kind of law for it to help everyone else. Companies are often willing to have california specific models of their products to comply with California specific laws, but if enough states have right to repair laws it will hopefully be easier for companies to just have all their products be compliant.

It's a rite of passage that every linux user should experience at least 3 times.

You can use dd, but as others have said, dd is nicknamed disk destroyer. If it was me, I'd probably just copy the files, which will be slower but easier to do.

phanto's suggestion of using gparted/kparted is also a good one. Another thing to keep in mind is that many cloning programs will clone the partition size as well, so you may need to use kparted when you're done to grow the partition to the larger microsd size.

I use a jsaux modcase instead of the included carrying case, it provides enough protection and fits better into my backpack for work. I've got a 3rd party ivoler dock I use for my TV, and 4 stadia controllers for docked play. Finally I have a walmart onn brand BT tablet keyboard and a trackball mouse that I can use while it's docked.

It probably will now that Spider Man 2 is out. GoW only started having sales below $20 once GoW Ragnarok was released.

But Spider Man 2 isn't going below $20 for years and years.

The included case is really nice and protects really well, but it's too big to fit into my backpack. I also like to have some protection when I just set my deck down on my nightstand or things like that.

I use a jsaux modcase as my main case now. It's reasonable well protected and can fit into my backpack much easier now.

This flipcase will be less protective than the modcase, but doesn't have a separate cover to keep up with, which will be very convenient.

Changelog:

  • General

Updated embedded Chromium build in Steam to 109.0.5414.120

Updated the quick access performance menu with descriptions for each setting, including how they affect the system and the expected power/performance/visual quality tradeoffs.

Fixed a case where the sdcard was set as the default install location on reboot.

Fixed a case where the network status icon would fail to render for virtual networks.

Fixed store button on main menu remaining disabled in Family View even if store permissions were granted to the account.

  • Steam Input

Fixed occasionally creating an extra virtual controller that is non-responsive

Important note: the updated chromium version will break themes from the decky plugin CSS Loader.

Release v1.6.0 brings all these changes:

New touch-friendly and semi-controller navigable GUI.

MacOS support and Windows libplacebo renderer support.

Resume connection from sleep mode on Steam Deck.

Ability to login to PlayStation for account ID via GUI.

Fix Senkusha, lowering time for console connection and properly setting MTU.

Audio Switch to SDL including fixing audio lag building over session.

New Logo.

Qt6 support.

Personally not an issue for me since I disabled EAC and use permanently offline mode, but it's always great to see Deck specific fixes like this.

I'm extremely excited about this one personally.

It's worth noting that the top 100 games do contain a lot of popular multiplayer games, and multiplayer games are less likely to work on Steam Deck/Linux due to anticheat issues. So games outside of the top 100 will generally have a higher compatibility rate. For comparison, only about 5% of the top 1000 games are broken on Linux according to Protondb

New update on the SteamOS beta channel, lets OLED users control the brightness of the charging led. Also includes a fix for WiFi failing to connect and an issue with HDR through some display port connections becoming desaturated.
