Unironically I wouldn't be surprised if some version of automated AI commentary becomes a thing at some point. I can imagine some people wanting to simulate having viewers who care about what they're playing, I've already seen kids talking to themselves while playing pretending they're a streamer.

Congrats! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have

Probably comparing her acting in the new Snow White movie to Tommy's acting.

If you run the install script it will let you uninstall Decky but leave your config/plugins intact. Then after you're done testing you can run the installer again to have everything back how it was before.

Not officially listed on the patch notes. I'm on beta updates though and I'm not having that issue, so maybe it's been fixed?

If you have Decky plugins installed it may be worth trying disabling them or uninstalling any you don't use. I've noticed some issues with recent steam updates and some plugins, and it might be causing you issues.

MageQuit sounded interesting, so I went to add it to my wishlist... and it turns out I already own it somehow. Now just to figure out best way to get it for my friend group.

Great writeup as usual, lot of emulation/retro hardware related news this week!

I hope the switch emulator scene smooths out soon, but I expect it will stay pretty rough until the switch 2 has released and reached a decent install base. Hopefully once it's an established success nintendo will calm down a little and we'll see some consistent options show back up.

I'm looking forward to playing through the DS Castlevania games, I've avoided emulating them because I didn't want to deal with the touch control parts.

The main new game I've started recently is Split Fiction, which is the new coop game from the devs of "It Takes Two". I highly recommend it if you have a coop partner, the game is delightful and you only need one copy for two people.

Some other games I've played recently: Finally finished Metaphor Refantazio. I had to take a break from it after about 100 hours because (which is pretty normal for me with long games), but I just came back and finished it. Really great game, highly recommend it on Deck. Also been playing Lost Judgement, which is a Yakuza style game but with a detective focus. Finally I've been playing Rift of the Necrodancer, which is a lot of fun but hurts my brain.

I looked at your screenshot, but didn't even notice that until you pointed it out.

Once you take a screenshot, you can open the steam menu and go to media. Click on the screenshot there, and then hit the share button. There's a couple handy options there, but if you have the steam mobile app you can send the screenshot straight to your phone.

"Sorry I got rid of windows 10 years ago. I can help you install win 7 but nothing newer than that"

According to some data mining from the guy who runs SteamDB:

Steam is still working on clip recording. It supports background recording, includes timeline markers in supported games for various events.

Clips can be shared similar to screenshots, via the Steam community.

We don't actually have any proof that this will be coming to Steam Deck yet, but I'm pretty optimistic that it would.

I recommend clicking through to the article, it has several screenshots showing how the feature will look.

Steam Deck Specific changes:

  • Show battery information for connected Bluetooth devices under Settings->Bluetooth and in the Quick Access menu.
  • Added a per-device toggle to Settings->Bluetooth that controls whether a device is allowed to wake Steam Deck from sleep.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause the UI to show stale data for Bluetooth devices.

Rest of the changelog is here and is mostly desktop client improvements

This is a developer Q&A session with Steam Deck HQ. It specifically covers a lot of questions about what was involved in getting the game running well on Steam Deck.

This is just talking about games approved through Valve's verification process. There are a lot of games that work that are "unverified", not to mention the entire history of gaming available through emulation.

TL;DR: Antec is going to be selling a Steam Deck competitive device, based on the Ayaneo Slide. The device has a slide up screen that reveals a keyboard, which is good because using desktop windows is much easier with a keyboard. However the device's lowest estimated power draw at low/no load is 15w, meaning it will use comparable power to the deck running at max power. This means the battery life will probably be pretty rough when compared to the Deck. It will also likely have a much higher price point.

There's a new beta for Caves of Qud, available by opting into the beta from the game's steam properties.

Noteworthy changes for Steam Deck users:

  • 🚨ALL NEW INTERFACE🚨 Our transformational UI redesign is complete! Fully mouseable, fully gamepaddable, and much prettier, but all carefully designed to maintain the essence of what makes Qud Qud. More polish is coming, but everything functional is in.

  • Support for Steam Cloud saves. Play between PCs or between Steam Deck and PC, at your leisure

There are a lot of other good changes too, full patch notes are here.. This patch will exit beta on June 6th.

According to the developer:

You may notice that Steam marks the game as 'Unsupported' for Steam Deck. This is due to the Legends co-op multiplayer mode requiring Windows to access PlayStation Network integrated features.

They're rolling out a new in-game PlayStation overlay that requires PSN and windows to work, and multiplayer features won't be available without the two. It's possible that Valve will be able to fix the windows incompatibility issue, although there's no hope for the PSN requirement part being removed.
