If I understand right, the lemmy devs are already paid to develop lemmy full time. I don't fully understand the arrangements or who's paying them though.
I agree. The article claims this mockup has better "trackpads", but I think they're just referring to the thumbsticks.
Understandable, it was really hard going back to the switch when TotK came out.
The discomfort of playing on the tiny switch after getting used to the deck was what finally motivated me to hack my switch so I could legally get game roms and save files off of it.
What was the nova launcher fiasco? I've been using it a long time and never knew about any kind of issue.
Mac OS does have 15x the number of users (in the US at least, closer to 6x the users outside the US), so this is still an accomplishment in my opinion.
The off the shelf user experience is so much worse though, it doesn't feel like a finished user ready product if you're having to navigate windows UI on a tiny screen with a thumbstick mouse.
Not to mention that running windows ruins the ability to play low power games at low power draws. A game like Stardew on the steam deck draws 5-7w, while the ROG Ally pulls about 15-17w to run it with the same settings. Disabling everything you can through task manager can reduce that power usage difference by maybe half, but there's still a lot of unnecessary power draw just from it running windows.
I've enjoyed both Yakuza 0 and God of War on my deck. Initially I had issues with God of War crashing due to the game's memory leak issue, but upping my swap file size fixed that for me.
Might become a problem if Microsoft starts making all their games windows store exclusives. Doesn't seem to be their strategy right now, but it's always a danger.
Hadn't heard of Mixolumia before, but it looks interesting.
Yeah, exactly! The Yakuza games are really bad about surprisingly holding you hostage. I was playing though Yakuza Like a Dragon and had a 1.5 hour dungeon/boss fight/cutscenes sequence with no save points in between, and the deck's sleep function was absolutely crucial.
Termux is great. In addition to the methods shown in this guide, there are also apps like AnLinux and Andronix that let you install Linux distros inside of Termux chroot environments. Setting up a desktop environment through one of these apps has some advantages, including more packages and desktop environments/WM to choose from.
I knew it reminded me something, you're exactly right. Recolor it in leappad colors and it would fit right in.
