This is very cool. I originally thought this post was just going to be asking if it was possible or how to do it, so it was a pleasant surprise to find you already have it working and are sharing how.

The difference is IE was the dominant web browser. Despite having a terrible user experience it had the vast majority of the market share due to being the bundled web browser.

Microsoft is absolutely abusing windows market share to push edge, but it hasn't worked (yet) so they're not getting in trouble for it.

worse than IE ever was

This argument can be made for spying/telemetry, but I don't think anything will compare to how bad the IE user experience was for years. It ran so slowly, and took forever to get features like tabbed internet browsing. It started to get more functional towards the end once it started losing market share, but that was after years of it being complete garbage while having absolute market dominance.

They talk about it doing this for Firefox too.

Thanks for providing an update.

I haven't actually bought Palworld, but I've had similar issues with hard reboots in other games when I used up all my ram/vram. You might try increasing your swap file size and see if that helps.

To the best of my knowledge, no kernel level anticheat systems support Linux yet. So it's not something you have to worry about unless you're on windows.

Kernel anticheat is considered bad because it has full access to your computer. It's able to see everything happening on the computer to make sure you don't have cheats running. This is obviously bad for privacy reasons, and this is made worse because most games that use kernel anticheat are Chinese owned. The Chinese government is well known for spying on their citizens, and it's a very reasonable assumption that any kernel anticheat from a Chinese company is required to have backdoor access available to their government.

Other concerns are that it lowers the safety of computers. Kernel level access makes it very easy to compromise the computer. Genshin impact used to use kernel anticheat, but the anticheat was used to infect people with ransomware.

Furthermore, there's an ever increasing number of cheat options that don't run on the computer running the game, meaning that kernel anticheat can't even prevent cheating in games. An example is Aimbot software that uses a stream card to get screen info, and sends mouse inputs to instantly get headshots.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to disable it, I'm surprised it didn't.

Unfortunately display safe mode is the main way I know to fix issues like this. Someone mentioned deleting .local/share/kscreen and rebooting as a way to reset screen settings, but I would assume that only fixes desktop mode.

I'm not sure how settings for game mode are saved though. Gamescope is what provides the VRR functionality, so there would have to be a configuration file somewhere that it references for different games/displays. There's a chance it's using the same kscreen file for some of the settings, but I doubt it.

Do you have any emulation settings to share? My kids are always on the switch, if I could get TotK running well on the deck instead I could finally finish it.

Pokemon was largely inspired by Dragon Quest (according to interviews, but also you can just tell by looking at how similar a lot of the early Pokemon were to DQ monsters). There were also other creature collecting games before Pokemon came out.

My point is that everything owes inspiration to things that came before, the difference between an inspired creation and a cheap knockoff is entirely dependent on whether you're striving to go beyond the inspiration.
