I’m a salaried software developer. My first job was 8-5 with a lunch break that we had to take. I asked if I could take it at the start or the end of the day and was told, “No.” So my coworkers and I started playing board games 3-4 times a week during our lunch break in one of the offices. Mainly legacy games like Gloomhaven and Pandemic Legacy. The VP loved showing off the board game room to the interviewees to show that we like to have fun there.

I do miss that job sometimes because it was just raw programming. I was programming or writing SQL queries for over 30 hours a week. No AppSec, no lengthy review process, no bullshit (except the pay, which was ok for Mississippi).

I’ve gotten depressed enough (and my kitchen at my new place is very shit) that I don’t cook that much for myself anymore. My wife still keeps it up sometimes and understands that I hate our closed off kitchen. Also, it’s a simple walk down the street to a food truck or a 2 min car ride to get fun instant ramen then I can make a soft boiled egg.

The money is comfortable but I want to cook more again. I miss it.

On iPhone, hitting the lock button will let the call ring out and go to voice mail.

You don’t need a VPN if you have a good enough private tracker.

I used to work at Chick-fil-A in high school for about 2 years. At first we were able to take ice cream home at the end of the day since it would just be poured down the drain anyways. Same with nuggets and fries. It was so fun and rewarding to have a little extra treat. Corporate said the exact same thing, so now we had to pour the soap cleaner into the ice cream machine before emptying it so no one drinks any. It’s so sad.

Exactly what I was thinking. I have tons of pics of my friend group, and I love posting photos of us on our slightly larger online friend group. This guy needs the attention so much that instead of just do this have a fun bar night with friends, he would rather just make his own pretend photo. It’s not even fantasy like role playing (which is more like group story telling).

Was about to suggest the same! I feel in love with it 4 years ago and subscribed after beating the base game. Turns out that I had a JP service account, so I had to do the whole base story again on a new NA account (since they don’t allow cross region payments).

I remember when we had cheat codes for single player games... I miss just cheating my way to the last level to have fun.

My first job outside of college as an SE: 40hr/week & 50k in Mississippi. I worked my ass off and I'm almost at #1. Working 20-30 hours a week (with some meetings where I don't really work) making less than 300k, but in a big city living my best life. All but one person in my team is a fresh hire straight from college or an internship. It's doable, but they're picky.

I enjoyed the Mississippi job more due to the work style vs the new big tech job. But the hours and money are very nice, so I can't really complain.

Exactly. I've made friends with a few of my coworkers and at least one of us shave done fun things on the weekend. Making friends as an adult is hard, especially in a new city. I wanted my coworker to feel welcome.

I’m going in for a yearly check up next week to try to get depression meds. I’ve never thought I had depression before (besides seasonal), but I’m not motivated to do a lot of things like cleaning or exercising. I’ve already been on ADHD meds for years, and that did the trick until maybe this last year or two. I’m super positive and optimistic, but I just want to feel like a little more drive in my work and home life. I feel stuck and lazy most of the time. Fingers crossed that I can get on some kinda anti depressants, because I saw the change my wife had when she started them.

IPtorrents is the best. You should try to keep a 1:1, but you just have to seed for 2 weeks, and you get points for 15 torrents to use as upload credit, even if you don’t upload a single byte. I’ve never had to think about my ratio.

I’ve finally swapped from lemmy.world for my main account, but I’ve noticed that some instances don’t show downvotes (blahaj.zone). I completely understand their rationale behind it, but for posts, I need it, as it conveys when something is misleading (like a YSK post a couple days ago, with 1.1k upvotes, but the downvotes were 300 on lemmy.world). I would like to use that as my main account, but it would be nice to pull in the upvote/downvote info from another account that I’m logged into for that post. I know I can change accounts easily when commenting, so that may be what I do for a while, but I’ll have to manage subscriptions to be the same across both accounts if I’m ever wanting to comment on my PC.

For now until that’s a possibility, this is my main account.
