GNOME is notorious for being against themes the way Evolve does it, mainly because themes might override default themes set by the app developers. While it does result in GNOME being more polished and coherent, some feel that it's too limiting, especially with an ecosystem like Linux's. It's essentially the trade-off you get.
Libadwaita is notorious for this - libadwaita does not allow theming by default, and apps stick out like a sore thumb on anything that doesn't run GNOME. Gradience helps match libadwaita apps to a colour scheme, and it's what I use to make Easy Effects blend as well as possible with KDE (FWIW, Easy Effects has no KDE equivalent).
Glad this exists, but I am worried with the way GNOME is going that this might not be worth it in the long run.
AFAIK it uses certificates for that, kinda like a more aggressive form of Windows' User Account Control.
+1 for Gentoo - Portage can be fun in a weird way. I'm more of a "just work" type of person though, so I've stuck to Arch, but the time I had with Gentoo was pretty great and the new binary package format might bring me back. I do have a 7950X nowadays so I wonder if that'd fly through Gentoo on bare metal.
I'm skeptical on whether this will be a hit with the audience, but at least they're releasing something I guess. I remember when Microsoft announced HoloLens, which then fizzled out.
Had COVID in 2022. Lost sense of taste and smell. I can say I didn't lose it permanently since it has come back. Whether in part or fully, I don't know. I smelled anything with a strong and recognisable smell to try retraining my nose. Perfume, Vicks, even newspapers.
I didn't get COVID during the peak in 2020 but my mental health has taken a massive hit. The NHS has taken a massive downturn since the pandemic, and I don't see it getting any better.
As long as they don't interfere with, say, Bazzite, all's good.
I heard somewhere Microsoft is making a gaming UI for Windows 11 for devices like the Steam Deck, but dunno if there's any progress there.
To be honest, social media including Mastodon is pretty awful for right-on-the-second emergency notifications but good for any extended information that wouldn't fit in those. Japan does have things in place for before then, similarly to America, but depending on the system you could link to that link just fine.

I'm not enough of a Linux user to inconvenience myself so I'm just using Steam. The cloud sync is the killer feature for me - if GOG had something like it even if I have to pay extra, I'd so use it.
