That would be a pretty good distraction, although I think I would need labor protections on top of that to be really distracted

Wait, I thought he forced all the women he’s been involved with to do in vitro to make sure he only has sons (and that’s part of why he hates his daughter)?

Look, I agree that everyone intentionally trying to be famous, whether it be online or as like an actor or something, needs to be aware that this behavior is a reality they need to be prepared for. BUT that doesn’t mean we ignore the weirdos online and don’t sympathize with famous people. We should still discourage people from being rude or parasocial, and it’s normal to feel bad for humans going through shitty things, regardless of how much money they make related to that. Yes, she can stop posting, but that doesn’t excuse other people’s actions, and realistically some people would continue to be weird even if she did just vanish from the internet

Those eyebrows… I’d recognize them anywhere

It’s also kind of different (in a legal not moral sense) to have police lie to an individual vs a lawyer lie to a company to steal medical record and violate hippa

Trump has been riling up his fan base and conspiracy theorists since the election. Actually, he has been riling them up since the 2016 election by accusing the dems of all being pedophiles and saying he was going to lock them up. But in the 2024 election, he talked about Epstein specifically quite a few times and led his base to believe he would actually release the Epstein files. Unlike the economy, which you can use various metrics to claim it’s doing good or bad (stock market, grocery prices, etc.) Epstein is a pretty black and white case of “he’s literally a pedophile and was found guilty for doing lots of horrible things.” Everyone, conservatives and liberals, has spent many years rightly hating the guy, but also waiting for everyone he was involved with to also be punished. The maga base was dumb enough to believe that it was only dems and maybe a few unimportant republicans on the list, but they’re out for blood that Trump is refusing to give them, so they’re starting to actually turn on him, a little at least. Trump’s big mistake was thinking that he could use the Epstein files like he’s used everything else so far. In his mind, pedophilia is no different to Hillary’s emails: just a way to rile up his base and use their anger. He assumed that if he stopped talking about it then they would too. He’s so out of touch and evil that he didn’t realize that to the average, non-elite American pedophilia is unforgivable and it’s something conservatives will actually fight against (that’s why republicans accuse trans and gay people and basically anyone they don’t like of being a pedophile: it’s wildly effective)

Dude this is about grammar not tech. They just gave you the physical description of what an em dash looks like and why it’s different to an en dash or a hyphen. As for the grammatical uses, hyphens are for like connected words like if you say half-sister. En dashes are technically for in between dates like July 19 – July 28. (People rarely use en dashes tho) Em dashes are similar to commas or parenthesis and have a wide variety of uses. For example you could say “I grabbed my AirPods—which had a cute Toothless case—and ran to the car, hoping I wouldn’t be late for school.”

I liked to sprinkle em dashes into my essays bc they can be quite nice for the flow of a sentence. I’m so glad I graduated a few years ago bc if LLMs had been a big thing the entire time I was at college my profs would have always suspected me of using them :(

They can charge more for the place if it has a parking garage or lot with it. It’s like how I was looking to buy a laptop recently and a bunch of them came with a wireless mouse or a year long subscription for Microsoft office. I didn’t want or need those things, but they bundle them into the laptop so they can say “look at all the stuff you’re getting! Give us more money for this stuff you don’t want!” The parking availability makes the property more valuable technically, so they can charge more for renting or buying

Aw man nebula is great. I totally recommend it to anyone with the extra disposable income. I got into it because Dr. Simon Clark (climate scientist YouTuber) had a discount link on one of his videos and it turned out that a bunch of other creators I like are on it, like HelloFutureMe and NotJustBikes. The only thing I feel like it’s missing is comments on videos, but I get that moderating that would be a lot, and while I like to know what other people think, I’m willing to sacrifice that for an overall better experience

Bro as a lefty I’m so scared of this America Party bro. Like we really won’t be able to beat them frfr. If republicans have the Trump Party and the America Party it’ll be like they’re twice as strong. They definitely won’t just start taking sides and splitting the vote so that their already fake “majority” completely falls apart. And the muskrat definitely wouldn’t be dumb enough to try to rig an election so his puppet candidate beats a Trump Party candidate prompting Dump or SCOTUS to crack down on election rigging. That would never in a million years happen bc the America Party is gonna totally be the people’s party bro

Hello! I'm getting a new (windows) laptop that I'll mainly be using for writing text documents, surfing the web, and basically doing studenty things. I thought I'd use the chance to give linux a try since I'm too scared to jump in head first and trying to move everything over on my main computer. I'm not tech savvy at all but after watching a lot of videos explaining the basics and reading the guides here to help beginners pick a distribution, I think I've narrowed it down to either Linux Mint Cinnamon or Ubuntu (leaning towards Kubuntu because it looks a lot like Windows).

The two big things for me are 1. I don't want to use the command window for everything, or really much of anything, at least at the start. and 2. I currently use Proton VPN and I'd like to use it on this new laptop too. Unfortunately, based on what I saw on the Proton website, if I want to use it on linux it looks like the only way is to get it on Ubuntu, Debian, or Fedora using the console. I don't really want to switch away from Proton VPN right now, so while I'm sure there are other vpns that are more linux-friendly, that will have to be something I consider in the future. So, does this mean I should use Ubuntu? And will Kubuntu work or would I have to use a different version of Ubuntu? And is there no way to get Proton without using the console?

A few less important considerations for me are if I'm able to change to a custom mouse pointer (I currently use a cute one that I'd like to also use on the new laptop) and if keyboard shortcuts like alt-tabbing work or are easily configurable. If none of the beginner friendly distros support those then it's fine, but they would be nice.

Also, I'm kind of confused about how updating things works on linux. Will I be able to easily update to a new version of whatever distro I'm using? Do I even want to update to the newest version? And is there a way to be notified and set auto-updates for some applications? I've seen quite a few threads and questions about having to manually update things, but if I get an application from the software manager then will it be as easy as a clicking a button?

I know I'll have to adjust and just learn-by-doing some things no matter which distro I pick, and I'm willing to try out some other distros in the future. I just want to ease my way into things. So based on all that, should I just go for Linux Mint like most new users? Or would you recommend a completely different distro?

Just for reference, uhhh how easy is it to fuck up the process of trying and then installing a linux distro? Like completely-make-the-computer-unusable fuck up? Because that's my biggest fear

P.s. I'm sorry to make another "what distro do I use" thread, but I had some questions that I didn't see answers for in the other threads. And honestly, I'll feel a lot more comfortable with switching if I feel like I've actually talked it out with people who know what they're doing.

Edit: Hello! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded! I read them all, but literature cafe was down and I could edit the post from my alt acc. After trying out a couple distros from usbs (and panicking during the installation) I ended up on Kubuntu! I’m liking it a lot, and I’m gonna slowly learn to use some basic commands. Thank you to everyone for being so encouraging! I literally would have given up without you all <3
