My city had Amtrak back in the 70s or something and it came back a few years ago. The common thread I see around here is "I caught an hour delay one time so never again!"

Never mind that they get held up for hours every other time they travel on the highway, that's just part of it, I guess? Enjoy sitting there burning gas I'll just take a nap ๐Ÿคท

Big oil and big auto have people convinced that it isn't true, same with new apartments. Decades and billions of dollars to convince Americans that density is for poor people (even though its the dense places where property values skyrocket) and cars are the only acceptable transit because you don't want to share space with a poor, do you?

I think I read there was a big nvidia compatibility fix for Wayland coming down the pipeline, but who knows when it'll reach distros.

I selfhost a searxng instance and honestly forget it's a thing until I'm rebooting my pi or something then wonder why search isn't working lmao

That's really the kicker for me with those people. The louder they shriek about being moderated for outright dickish behavior, the faster they'd ban you on their own turf for politely sharing a source that counters their narrative.

I've agreed with you basically since the beginning of my lemmy experience about .world. I think that's just where most Reddit refugees landed (including myself initially) so that's why they have such a high concentration of people wanting this Reddit-adjacent neolib singular authority and want so strongly to defederate from anything remotely left of Biden -

Or even go as far as the post I assume OP is based off of and screech about free speech by arguing how the MLs who BUILT LEMMY should abandon their .ML domain to make the instance less ML. Cause that's how free speech works. >.>

"Vote for Biden THEN move him left! (never mind that the DNC went to court to ensure their right to run whoever they want, and that both parties move the goalposts anytime a 3rd party comes close to inclusion, completely ensuring zero methods to move anybody to the left)"

The quickie answer is most cities developed under increasingly strict zoning regulation that boils down to "housing goes over HERE, business goes over THERE, and don't you DARE let them touch!"

EDIT: Also "don't you even think about putting a bus stop near my new homes that's for poor people!"

I'm open to to the fact that (like basically anything) it DOES happen at some point, somewhere. The problem with taking the people complaining that its this big systemic push to purge them seriously is even the examples THEY give usually show themselves just being twats.

Also, as many people love screaming at me about "receipts," if you're getting banned left and right just for sharing a source and you're so enraged that you're taking up arms, where's the modlog entries?

Then, if it IS being mad that they're being moderated for getting shitty and acting like a cunt - could I go into their house and start pissing all over whatever they're about? Conservative spaces LOVE hyper moderation when it aligns with them, as I mentioned previously go find an instance that aligns with your shtick - that's the whole Lemmy thing.

I think blocking entire instances is inevitable, but the choices various instance owners make in doing so will help shape where the chips fall in the long run in terms of where people end up settling in - someone with leftist tendencies won't want to set up shop on an instance that defeds all the leftist instances, for example.

A lot of people call for outright defederation because they came from reddit so they want that more singular level of authority/moderation. Whereas (purely hypothetical, haven't been on reddit in a long gkme) a pro Palestinian sub could be banned because reddit took a pro - Israel stance, on Lemmy if .world bans my community I can take it to Ml, and they HATE that.

I'm not familiar with Voat. I'm not sure how it'd apply to something like Lemmy (probably fall on instance owners I guess) but the problem every "ultimate free speech TM" platform runs into is that laws exist and certain things are just illegal. ๐Ÿคท

The most notable thing about people who complain this loudly about moderation that doesn't skew their way, is that they dont want LESS moderation - They want moderation that skews to their viewpoints. They complain about being banned on ml for saying "fuck you tankie" or other dismissive nonsense, but if you visit THEIR spaces and politely disagree and provide sources you'll get banned quicker than anyone here but none of them cry about free speech when it happens on their turf.

See above advice ^

Shut the fuck up

You're arguing that the people who BUILT LEMMY and the people who have been around long before some Reddit drama should bail on their own instance, built to be their instance for their purposes, for YOUR comfort.

Maybe re-evaluate what "being an asshole" means before you go around calling people names.
