There's a difference between what the right-wing voters are wanting and what the right-wing politicians are doing. You run into the same problems with left-wing voters and politicians too. Not to say that they're "both the same", just that you can't treat them all as one big hive mind.

This is what frustrates me most about a lot of the left-leaning parties and voters I've encountered over the years. They think that "well obviously we should be winning, we're the good guys and they're the bad guys. People who vote against our position are either ignorant or evil. So we shouldn't change anything about it and we should ignore the people arguing against it."

Whether that's true or not isn't the point. The point is that you're not going to gain any more voters with that strategy. A lot of the people voting against the left have very real and tangible concerns, and you're not going to get them to vote for you by either telling them they're wrong to have those concerns or that they aren't even real in the first place. The left needs to provide them with real solutions to those problems.

It isn't necessarily racist. "Ourselves" and "others" can be simply defined by citizenship.

Yeah, you're not going to get a self-sustaining reaction in Earth's atmosphere if it wasn't already hot and compressed enough that there would be a self-sustaining reaction happening anyway. It's just not a plausible concern. You only get self-sustaining fusion in stars, so Earth would have to be a star in this scenario.

This sort of thing always reminds me of the classic Louis CK bit from Conan O'Brien: Everything is amazing and nobody is happy.

Yeah, the main question shouldn't be "is this new season as good as peak Futurama?" but "is it just good?" There's so little good TV these days that I wouldn't say no to anything that's just plain good, we shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Yeah, all that stuff about filtration systems and big tanks sounds way more expensive than just buying a new goldfish every couple of months.

I saw a video by CSI Starbase that speculated that during IFT3 the hot stage ripped off in an uncontrolled manner due to failure of the latches holding it in place. Since the latched-on nature of the interstage is a temporary measure anyway they may have figured "who cares, we're not trying to make this bit work so just throw it away so we can properly test the stuff we do want to do."
