Yeah, that's true. I still use Signal as the main app to keep in contact with friends and family, though. It's not like we ever discuss anything important, I just don't like having my privacy openly invaded by apps like TG. Its affronting and insulting.

I can't think of any other alternative to Matrix that has bot support, though. I guess just be careful of which instance, because I've read that there's a lot of shady stuff that goes down in Matrix groups sometimes.

If you want something more like the fediverse itself, then Matrix. If you want something closer to Telegram out of the box without setup, then Signal or SimpleX.

Federal government threatened Telegram and demanded a backdoor a while back, iirc.

I predicted this years and years ago when the internet was still young. I'm probably already well scanned and filed away like the rest of us, but as a rule of thumb I always come up with new usernames for everything just to be safe. I'm never the same on more than two platforms max. I've never connected my usernames to my identity, I've just always been paranoid about it since dial up was a thing.

Plus, I like the change. You get infinite new starts and it really gives you time to think and build on your first impressions. I highly recommend it. Not even my MMO accounts use the same character names from any other MMO. I have many abandoned emails, and never name them anything similar.

If you're going to be online, always keep moving. Keep changing, keep remaking yourself, and do it often. The same goes for avatars. Change them often and try not to use too many from actual hobbies you like. AI slop is out there, just generate something locally or pick something random that looks cool.

It's not impossible to still fingerprint someone like this, but that doesn't mean make it easy for big corp to file you away and monetize your existence.

Oh hell yeah. I'll take Solstice any day. What a legendary game. One of the best platform-puzzle titles for it's time. You just can't understand it until you play it.

I never had the manual, so it was confusing as hell for a while. Most stories for NES games came from the manual. NES manuals were half guides, half prologue novels.

This might be a weird, obscure game, I think, but I LOVE the Act 1 Part 1 song from Totally Rad and Act 1 Part 2 is my second favorite NES tune. The whole OST is just fire.

The game started as a sort of jrpg sidescroller, but it got... butchered from "Americanizing". Still gnarly, though (heh).

Also, honorable mention, all the music from The Guardian Legend. All of it. I love that game so much.

Oh shit, and this one (sorry, I'm like a kid in a candy shop trying to pick my favorite when it comes to NES) - https://youtu.be/o_VzSKgTye0

This is probably like... number one on the "my partner might be a doomsday prepper" checklist.

I had a similar case. Was going crazy about the horizontal lines on my screen. They weren't always there, just when a certain color took up most the screen or when a window was placed in a certain position. Suddenly bam, my whole screen looked like grip tape.

I started troubleshooting the display, compositor, checking the software for some sort of night mode or eye protection. Nuthin.

Then my friend says, "Are you using display port or HDMI? Try switching." I switched to HDMI and god fucking dammit if it didn't just work. Afaik it was something to do with the nvidia proptietary gpu drivers, because when I'd roll them back it didn't happen.

Telling my sister I'd go to her goddamn Memorial Day party. My sleep schedule was fine and I figured I'd make it, but my ADHD is on full screech and now I'm overtired panicking.

But my sister and my brother in law are "good old country bumpkins" that tell me it's all in my head, or I'm making excuses. I hope they have anxiety and severe panic attacks for the rest of their lives starting today.

But I like how squishy and soft they are from the microwave...

Alternatively, you could use a TUI file manager. Once you get the navigation down you can manage things pretty quickly. Especially with ones that have options for dual directory layouts, like Midnight Commander or vifm.
