II thin it's actually possible. Normally the argument against is that "AI can't be creative" but when was the last time Hollywood made a creative movie? "Write a script for Spiderman movie. Include origin story. Spiderman will fight Green Goblin. Again.".

Yes, people being dumb is the real source of all issues.

I think the main problem is that IDs accepted by banks are not always valid for voting. I remember that in some state gun permit was valid for voting but student ID wasn't. It's all designed to skew the results just so slightly. Also, 5% of Americans don't have a bank account. In close elections those numbers matter.

He can't get a permit. He doesn't need a permit for a dumpster. That's the whole story.

Well, I guess EU would simply come up with a plan for the automation that will not leave people without any protection. No idea what it would look like but they could for example come up with some legal definition of AI worker, establish mandatory staffing levels (for example 50% of employees must be human until 2040), tax 'salaries' of AI workers and use this revenue to retrain the workforce. We would still end up with automated jobs but it would happen in an organize manner.

This had to be done. How else are you going to explode thousands of innocent children?

What if AI will start contributing to the kernel end ends including AI there?

I think it's still possible for EU to regulate this and protect workers here. Not in US though.

The worst part is that it usually follows well known cycle of:

  • project is estimated at $10b, government assigns $10b
  • private companies spend it on consultants and analysis, little gets built
  • government agrees to invest another $5b but requires cuts to the initial scope
  • with reduced scope projected passengers numbers drop, project is less attractive
  • repeat until cost is 1000% of the initial estimate and usefulness is 0. cancel project
