Yeah, I haven't read whatever paper this is talking about, but I imagine, it's looking at the saying in a more literal fashion for the sake of argument...

As the other person already said, it basically means "I'm dead" and you can laugh so hard that you supposedly die, or you can die inside, due to an awkward situation. It can be used for both.
I only realized just now that the lady's outfit is Sonic-themed. She's completely blue, because she's a Sonic fan... 🫠
With how many species we've successfully endangered and with how wide-reaching the impact of a nuclear plant is, I feel like it's going to be difficult to dodge them.
I guess, only a fraction of endangered species are actually legally protected, though, and these companies will not give a fuck about further endangering a species, if they don't get regulated.
Finde es immer spannend, wie weit sich so Firmenkultur durchzieht. Google war für mich schon immer eine Firma, die auf soziale Probleme eine technische Lösung draufwirft und dann vollkommen blind dafür ist, dass das Problem nicht gelöst wurde.
Weitere Beispiele sind z.B. ihre Berechtigungssysteme. Mozilla ist deutlich effektiver darin Schadsoftware aus dem Add-On-Store zu halten, weil sie einfach ein paar Menschen involvieren, anstatt alles auf ein stumpfes Berechtigungssystem zu setzen.
Und ich erinnere mich noch an eine Präsentation als das Android Berechtigungssystem eingeführt wurde, wo jemand im Publikum gefragt hat, ob es denn auch eine Berechtigung für Internetzugriff gibt. Und der Google-Mensch auf der Bühne hat knallhart geantwortet, dass man das nicht bräuche, weil ihr Berechtigungssystem ja verhindere, dass man auf irgendwelche Daten Zugriff hätte, die nicht in's Internet rausgeblasen werden dürften. Was so eine maximal dumme Aussage ist.
Bin dann aber davon ausgegangen, dass das einfach ein Manager ist, der genau diese Antwort sich schon längst bereitgelegt hatte.

Ah, yeah, I don't think there was anything in the app. I guess, they could've mentioned it in the changelog, which gets shown in the app by default after an update.

Die Straßenbahn hier hat vorne horizontal einen Streifen Vollgummi. Jedes Mal, wenn ich die sehe, grüble ich, wie die Höhe dafür entschieden wurde.
Kann gut sein, dass einfach die Höhe gewählt wurde, auf der die Straßenbahn strukturell am stabilsten ist. Oder die Höhe, auf der man die meisten Material-Zusammenstöße (also tendenziell mit Autos) erwartet.
Aber ich frage ich eben auch oft, wie der Effekt bei einer Personenkollision ist. Wenn's dich auf Schulter- oder Rippenhöhe erwischt, erspart es dir vielleicht eine Kopfverletzung. Wenn's dich auf Nackenhöhe erwischt, ist wahrscheinlich ziemlich schlecht.
Aber ja, kein Plan, vielleicht erwischt es auch so gut wie niemand auf Nackenhöhe, weil die meisten Leute quer zu den Gleisen laufen, und vor der Kollision die Schultern einziehen.
Im Grunde ist meine Frage, wie viele Crash-Test Dummies wurden umgesäbelt, um das zu untersuchen? Und bitte lass es nicht 0 sein...
