Sex tourism. I'm not implying anything outright illicit here, rather the exploitation of financial inequality of wealthy vs developing nations.

I think that ship has long sailed.

This should have been a very obvious outcome to those who paying attention to what's been going on and how we got here. It's basically an extension of the "passport bros" culture and another ploy for predatory behavior.

I think most Democratic voters are going to associate Israel with Trump, given who their regime has been very vocally supporting. Democratic politicians need to get serious about this issue. Not that I actually expect them to.

Following the 4% rule (not sure how applicable to Japanese investing this is), $84K would yield ~$280/month. Hopefully this isn't all he had.

When imposing punishment, there is a burden of proof. So the punishment is for $7 theft until something substantiates otherwise.

In all fairness, it appears that the amount is $84K total, not per year. $84K is not much of a retirement and would only yield about $280/month following the 4% rule. It's still a wildly disproportionate punishment and likely represents a significant portion of this man's retirement.

Dragon Age: Inquisition feels rather like a single-player MMO.

That's disappointing. Which one has this issue?

Fwiw, I have used OpenOffice and OnlyOffice. I actually haven't used LibreOffice specifically.

Libreoffice and other FOSS alternatives just simply don’t come close

I really only use Word and Excel, and I find the FOSS alternatives just fine. I can understand if power-users might find the newer features worthwhile, but for basic word processing and spreadsheets the FOSS options are good enough.

Also why so many areas are zoned single-family housing and don't allow apartments or other "missing middle" types of housing. Houses require a lot more resources to maintain, including utilities and increased car dependency.

Yep, if there is no due process (making this a kidnapping), then this becomes valid self-defense.
